Road North

Road North

A sly riff on the Prodigal Son story, Mika Kaurismaki's latest — about a joyless workaholic concert pianist who ends up on a wild ride with his long-lost rapscallion father — is a funny and cogent analysis of machismo, abandonment issues and the value of reconnecting with one's roots. (TIFF)

Vadim D (de) wrote: What matters here is the acting, which is great, specifically by Jack Nicholson, Candice Bergen, and Ann Margaret. But the film isn't just dated. Even if taken within the context over the era, it simplifies relationships between men and women to a one dimensional point of view. Mike Nichols is a great director, and even though direction is fine in this film, it's just not his best and doesn't survive the test of time.

Cliff D (ca) wrote: Without exception, THE GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME.... Hayley Mills is stunning and Hywell Bennett is amazing!
