Omar L (es) wrote: We can see the embryonic ideas that would lead to the great Jurassic Park, but this attempt at combining robots and amusement is clumsy. The premise is intriguing, yes, but the execution is so sloppy that any attempt to be interested in anything other than the premise itself fails. Poor editing, poor writing, and no character development make this one of the most boringly disappointing science fiction movies ever made.

Alejandro R (nl) wrote: A film as powerful, gripping and heart-wrenching as it is vitally important due to its telling of a very dark foundational piece of American history. Then add to that the fact that it's based on actual events of a kidnapped free man of the north taken from his wife and children to be enslaved in the south for 12 years. As if the general injustice of slavery were not enough, legally declared free people were also kidnapped to be enslaved. The actual historical figure who wrote the original 1853 book "12 Years A Slave" was one of the few who made it out and so lived to tell the tale-and tell the tale he did! It was also fortunate that he was educated and so was able to write about the atrocities he witnessed and was on the receiving end of himself.Brilliant work on the part of up and coming director Steve McQueen III, as well as great performances from Fassbender, Lupita and others. Kudos to Brad Pitt for producing this amazing film, even if his brief performance in it was not so great. This is just amazing film making!

Erik A (us) wrote: I just watched this movie last night, for about the 5th time. I enjoy it every time. The variety of opinion about this movie is impressive and seems to almost mirror the variety of reactions of the characters in the movie to a robot. The movie covers a 200 year period, and so one cannot expect a perfectly linear, smooth pathway through all of these years. Contrary to what many reviewers have said, the movie does not "jump around," but it progresses forward in time. In the scene where Andrew plays a duet on the piano with Little Miss, then the scene changes to a point a dozen years in the future, it will be obvious to some that they are making this transition, but not to others. Some people need some more obvious markers of what is going on; others don't.This film explores many issues regarding what it means to be human, and I don't think it's overly sentimental or manipulative. The events portrayed are normal aspects of a life well lived - creativity, conflict, love, loss, aging. The soundtrack by James Horner is well done, and I particularly enjoyed the set design, although we had a laugh at what the kitchen of the future is supposed to look like. The point, though, to counteract some reviewers' critique of the set design, is not to predict what the future will look like, but to help denote the passage of time. As far as casting, Sam Neill Embeth Davidtz and Oliver Platt are perfectly cast and do an exceptional, understated job. Robin Williams also does a fine job, but keep in mind that this is not one of his manic, high-octane performances, but is more nuanced and thoughtful. Williams received quite a few negative reviews for this movie, but I think the reviewers were expecting the same old same old out of him.

Jacky L (gb) wrote: Based on real events. What a departure from her usual roles; the younger Meryl Streep chain smoked her way through the entire movie as the flawed but brave protagonist, Karen Silkwood. Streep was just top notch riveting to watch; this could just be my favorite MS role. Cher was equally amazing as 'Dolly' too. The touching friendship between 'Karen' and 'Dolly' could be another standalone movie altogether; that one move'd focus on Dolly's 'issues'. Enjoyed the movie, but wowed by Meryl Streep and Cher's performances.

Ashley H (gb) wrote: Kim Novak and Kirk Douglas steam up the screen in this well-done film depicting a torrid suburban affair in Dwight Eisenhower's sexually repressed America. Walter Matthau and Ernie Kovacks gave great performances. The script was amazing and so was the directing by Richard Quine. This film is a must see if you're a fan of either Novak or Douglas.

JamesMasaki R (mx) wrote: First it seems like a sci fi movie that will take place out in space, then in the second half it becomes a monster movie. Sounds like a nice 2 in one. It's not as bad as a lot of other 50s sci fi but it doesn't rank as classic either. But made during the space heyday of the 1950's, it capitalized on the craze and imagined what it would be like if man went to space, but obviously it didn't happen this way years later. But that rubber monster looked pretty nasty even in black and white.

Paul C (de) wrote: I was a great fan of the original Bewitched & this had so much potential to provide us with great entertainment. There were instances where it was great fun but it missed the point. Samantha (played by Nicole Kidman) was lacklustre but better than Will Ferrell sank to a new low as an unfunny self centred actor who was no fun. With some real comedy this could have been a sparking movie but Writting / Director spoilt it.

Carmen P (de) wrote: This movie was phenomenal. It brought me to tears throughout the movie, almost balling a couple. Very moving. I definitely recommend it.
