(es) wrote: This movie is pretty good. Well paced with a good story and likable characters. The acting and filming were not up to the rest of the film but it was very good to watch. Worth it? YES

(us) wrote: It was too slow and boring, even though I can understand why the pace was so slow... Still, I couldn't wait to get out of the cinema.
(es) wrote: Depending on your mood this could be seen as self indulgent pretension or utter genius. I'm going with the latter. It is meticulously constructed, and incredibly creative, from the script to the post production (I love the mixing in of Japan train announcements!)Also I've never seen a film where in the closing credits they list the people who's scenes were cut! (Good lord how long was it going to be?!)

This film is a part of my DVD collection and while I rarely watch it, I'm glad it's there. The gore and nudity is gratuitous, but the point of this movie is to take the genre as far as it can go. While the film is dated, for its time I believe it accomplished it's goal.

It's a rather awkward World War II propaganda film, it's goal being to rally support of Americans toward our Allies, namely Russia. It is interesting for it's historical perspective, but it is too obvious and too melodramatic. It is moving and has a good production.

Throw enough stuff at the audience and somthing's bound to stick. Apparently, I wasn't the only one infatuated with these. During high school we actually flew Eric Von Zipper (Harvey Lembeck) in because there was a mini revival going on. (Also because it was chessy G-rated stuff and HS had to fight the influx of 70s drugs and sex.)

It also happens to be a very beautiful and well shot film with powerfully striking scenes. My only complaint is that it tried to have a happy ending, and that in effect ruined the beautiful sadness it brought out in me.
