Leonard E (ru) wrote: Now that is one fine piece of storytelling. It takes a *long* time to set all the stages, but then it comes together nicely. Several separate storylines - a tragedy, an adventure, a love story, a comedy, a mystery - and Soylent Green - all wrapped into one. Not without faults (particularly - Hugo Weaving is not a very good actor, even Peter Jackson knew to only use him for exposition). If you have 3 hours and want a brain-bending trip back into the Matrix, with a much better cast and story, this movie is for you. Grade B.

Jason S (jp) wrote: I found Mogie to be the most interesting character (and Graham Greene to be the best actor in the film). He is a funny yet tragic figure. The relationships he has with his son and brother reveal a complex family dynamic where he is dependent upon them for money (to fuel his alcoholism) and help (when he gets in trouble or becomes ill). At the same time he wants to be a good father and independent of his brother's help, but is incapable of it because of his alcoholism.Rudy is interesting because he is torn between various loyalties (his people, his job as a police officer, his sense of justice, his family). I think his defining moment, the culmination of the film, and the combining of his various loyalties all come together when he throws red paint onto George Washington's nose on Mt. Rushmore.

April V (es) wrote: I swear, there is no pattern in the movies I have watched today. None at all. Anyway, I watched this thinking it would suck horribly since I never heard of it, but apparently it was actually funny. In my opinion, at least, and apparently with critics. It's an old formula, you know, disguising as something ridiculous (B) to avoid A. Then A shows up and C happens. But, in spite of that and the fact that this movie is 14 years old, it still manages to retain a fresh quality to it. I mean, it made Steve Zahn likable. Jeremy Northam is like sex on wheels, so that's nice. ...I even ended up feeling bad for the sheriff because he got his gay heart broken. So, pretty solid comedy.
