The story is somewhat generic but the characters are so incredible, especially Batman who's involvement attests to the superpower of intelligence. You'll be on the edge of seat for this one!

Art S (fr) wrote: Chaplin's look back at his music hall days from the vantage point of old age was a good idea in theory but in practice the film drags because the "bits" aren't funny. He plays Calvero, a former superstar who comes to realize that times have changed and left him behind, just as he rescues a young despondent ballet dancer and mentors her to stardom. Early on, a few speeches suggest we will be treated to some of Chaplin's social philosophizing but this eventually disappears in favour of a focus on the social relationship between Calvero and his protg played by Claire Bloom. Too bad because I hoped for a more acerbic film like Monsieur Verdoux (truly worth watching); instead, we get a rather indulgently paced sketch padded with a bit too much filler.
