(ca) wrote: You know, for 80s movie this really has decent staying power. The women's hairstyles may be laughable, and Dennis Quaid may seem like a professional asshole, but the story's alright and the effects make a solid showing for the time period. Film gets off to a pretty slow start, but the dream sequences are intriguing and the action sequences are hilariously choreographed. Wish the film moved faster, but I suppose it had to pass the 90 minute mark, huh?
(us) wrote: worth seeing, but nothing to remember. loses very much on momentum and gains some of that on gravity. trying to tell the story of a bad side of liberation, but still fails. the character is just too unbelievable.
(jp) wrote: Some great casting helps hold this together.
(br) wrote: I agree fully with the critical consensus. I really looked forward to the movie due to the cast and the soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat, but the narrative is "curiously slack" and the drive is absent.

(us) wrote: A sumptuous period piece zombie drama, superbly shot and with good production values that ultimately faceplants itself on corny drama, cheesy acting, horrid soundtrack and not much novelty to be had. What it does, it does so well, from the animations to the cinematography to the way some scenes unfold but it's all too messy and most of these elements just don't fit together at all in the end. Worth a shot for fans of the genre but even so, there's not enough here to elevate itself above the mediocre or even hope to achieve the classics it so desperately tries to. And crap, is the lead still screaming? Oh... yes... yes he is... *sigh*
