(au) wrote: This movie was honestly hard for me to watch, and not in a good way. The only thing that made it bearable was Panabaker's character, because the young blonde lead was a complete and utter bitch through out the entire film. I didn't see her change, aside from getting worse, and it was just disturbing to watch and didn't seem real. I don't know anyone who would take the crap Panabaker's character was put through from her "best friend" and at the end, I actually didn't feel any sympathy for the blonde character. I've been victimized myself, and I don't think people deserve anything, but... her character in this movie was literally asking for it, it drove me absolutely crazy. And it's sad because I think the movie could have been better if blondie had at least one redeeming quality. But no. She was a disgusting brat to her mother, sister, best friend, people in her town, strangers, and when it came time for her to face the music (like with the black girl in the trailer park spitting on her, and the ending scene with the grown man), she just sat there and cried about it. I've seen people say it's an empowering movie, it's about freedom, it's about this, it's about that, but I honestly think that character completely ruined what could have been a good movie and in no way do I see the empowerment. They didn't go out on their own; they lived with boys who used one of them as a sex object to rob men. Where is the empowerment there? The actress who played the "bitch" attitude was fine, so no negative comments towards her, just whoever wrote the character that way didn't do so well, in my opinion. She needed at least ONE redeeming quality, because... I hated her the entire movie, literally every time she said something I cringed, and I certainly didn't care to see what she had to go through. Then I thought Panabaker's character was just a p*ssy, because she went along with all the abuse and never stood up for herself, yet on the flip side, I could appreciate her loyalty to her friend, and I could appreciate her knowing better in the end and finally "leaving". I just couldn't stand how it followed the story of a complete bitch, misunderstood or not she didn't have one soft spot, and then a p*ssy who did everything the lead character said, even after slamming someone in the back of the head with a skate board! -- That just doesn't seem like something Panabaker's character would be okay with. It seems like she would have tried to leave right away, or help the man up. I... I just had a lot of problems with this movie, mostly all the characters, because the plot had potential. But I would not recommend it to anyone. Ever. All because the blonde *character* was an absolute miserable person with no redeeming qualities, what so ever. Hated it.

(mx) wrote: quirky and funny one moment. dark, brutal and violent the next. This movie to me is the perfect crime story. No matter how many times I watch it I am glued to the screen everytime its on. Absolutely brilliant performances from everyone involved especially Frances McDormand and William h Macy. To me this is the Coan brothers best movie in a very long list of impressive movies. Definitely a must for any film lover.

(kr) wrote: The Dogs of War. Completely underrated movie starring Walken and Berenger. I had low expectations but it was surprisingly good. Solid entertainment from beginning to end. Every female role was fully unnecessary in the movie and that is not me being a sexist that is literally a fact. If you took the females out of the writing it would not change the plot or the way the story progressed even slightly. Not a lot to say though because it is the stereotypical war-like filler movie. Guns, explosions, cool stances while shooting guns, and face paint. Nothing new whatsoever but good nonetheless. 6.5/10

(I am joking, Star Wars is already out as I write this, he is huge now and stuff).Whilst it has all the style and gravitas of the films that inspired it, 'A Most Violent Year''s plot just doesn't quite have enough of an edge to keep it interesting. This isn't much of an issue given how strong the performances are and how cool the pay off is but, still, a few tweaks and this really might have been the first film of its genre to fully live up to its predecessors. Plenty to ponder over and a sign of great things to come from all involved. Also, I think I have a man-crush on Oscar Isaac. It is time that the truth was heard.

If you enjoy British humor, this is a must see. If you don't think radical Islam can be funny, this is a must see. If you have a pulse and a sense of humor, this is a must see.
