Hawk (it) wrote: This is a great film but it has one fatal flaw which is that it needs much more editing. The director for some reason felt that we would like to see all of the events that go on at a wedding and shows several long scenes that has nothing to do with the plot of the movie. That being said when you get down to it, there is a good story here about Anne Hathaway dealing with being the black sheep in the family. There's a lot of drama and heart here. It'd probably be a five starer if not for the plodding and brooding pace, but hey you gotta review what's here.

Certain scenes are immensely thought-provoking and even dearly emotional. However, unlike other films of its kind, such as "American History X," the film just doesn't hold a very cinematic prowess and exists mostly as the talking points for something much more powerful and satisfying. Nothing in comparison to "The Sweet Hereafter" but at least this great director is coming back to form.
Padraig G (au) wrote: As a teenager now, I very rarely like these old 80's teen dramas but this is a totally different story as I found myself very entertained by this. This movie is about a smart but weird 14-year-old named Lucas (Corey Haim). During the summer he meets a girl who is new in town named Maggie (Kerri Green). Lucas isn't very popular in school and is a lot of the times picked on due to his weakness and intelligence. But this girl Maggie is strangely nice to him. Ok don't want to give too much away but I liked this movie. And I don't usually like this particular genre but I have made an exception for this one. This movie was heart-warming and kept me entertained. There was one hell of a cast in this movie, but it wasn't much of one back then too bad a few of them turned out to be druggies (Charlie Sheen and Corey Haim) they both showed their true talent in this one, especially Corey Haim. I think critics were wrong about this movie, yes it got fresh but not by much. A few critics just rated it without ever reviewing it which pisses me off considering I always give reason to why I liked/disliked it. But I did like it and you've just heard my reason why. 90% Bit corny but still great!

Lilianetty l (ru) wrote: This movie (for me) is not a Comedy. It doesn't even fall on Comedy at all. It is more DRAMA (which I love a lot). The cast did a fantastic job. The story/plot is brilliant and the hate/love that Joel & Williams did have on screen felt so real it was amazing. Yes, you may say "it's a story we have heard all our lives. Son hates dad coz he ruined christmas, the typical father who is drunk, bla, bla" but you cannot blame the FACT this stories KEEP happening on real life. Blame the humans who keep repeating the same thing over and over. It's still an interesting point of view from the script writer, same the director and his vision. The music score also is interesting. Anyway, enjoy and I do recommend it but remember, is NOT a comedy, IS a DRAMA ;) - December 2015 review.
