PJ P (au) wrote: Initially conceived as an advertising short for Eurostar, which then sort of stretched, this offering from Shane Meadows does eventually go to Paris. I??m not sure that it goes anywhere else much. Consistently improbable storytelling foils any attempt at redemption in the form of characters and relationships. Immediately alarmed at the grainy black and white format, a sure sign that I??m about to see Art, I nonetheless tried to concentrate on the film??s good bits. There are some, just not enough. As it says on the can, the film is set in Somers Town, of which I had not heard but which is sort of south Camden and adjacent to Kings Cross St Pancras (geddit? ?? Eurostar). Graham Cutler a wheeler-dealer character is mildly amusing in but in that rather worn-out cockney chappie way ?? sort of cheap-end Fagin cum Delboy. But it really doesn??t live up to its billing. New friends Tommo (Thomas Turgoose, ex This is England), a young refugee from Nottingham (like Meadows himself of course) and Marek (Piotr Jagiello), the son of a Polish construction worker, are obsessed by a young and beautiful Parisienne waitress Maria (Elisa Lasowski), who improbably seems to have nothing better to do than encourage their puppy advances and provide masturbatorial fantasies until called home suddenly by a family crisis. The happy ending when the two young protagonists get to Paris to see her, bursts into colour, but although I??m a Eurostar fan, by this time I no longer cared whether I was in Paris or Oz.
Amy R (kr) wrote: better than I expected, not as good as I hoped. it was wonderful to see the old gang from Henry Fool back together, and performances and camera work were as weirdly wonderful as ever. the writing, however, was just not as brilliant as the first time around.

Gavin S (ru) wrote: Spinal Tap for a younger, dumber generation. Except this one seems more believable, because we've all met a few guys like this. Dean and Terry are funny to watch, a sort of updated Bob and Doug McKenzie, Canadian beer drinkers, but this time, they're a lot less PG. Not a laugh out loud movie, more of a satirical mocumentary. Kind of essential in some ways...we all know someone who loves to Giv'R!

Seth U (ag) wrote: Another great urban drama. There are parts of the movie that drag and the acting isn't always up to par. It's along the same lines of every other urban drama, but what others lack in a moral at the end, this one helps to shows what can happen with one wrong decision. Good movie, with a good message.
