Donald Z (kr) wrote: It's like they tried to make an Austin Powers here, to an extent. They failed, but, what exists is still an interesting way to keep Spanish words flowing into your ears. It was good, it touches on some good stuff, and has some good music in it. The intro song is highly misleading as to how 'big' this movie will feel, but still, it's a good film, in my view.
Panayiota K (ru) wrote: Got bored right from the beginning so i didn't finish it. When you don't care about the characters (and their boxing) it's pretty much over. Trying so hard to be an interesting film noir without success. Also inaccuracies about the murder case.
John M (it) wrote: While it is rather slow, if American Zombie was taken in any other direction it would have lost everything that made it special. Lee made a spectacular movie that achieves so much in it's 91 minute span that it is hard to categorize as one specific genre of movie. While technically, it is a mockumentary/horror, it makes you feel real-life emotion more than your average, run-of-the-mill, drama. Every scene just builds and builds to the peak so when the movie finally reaches it's climax, you've been completely immersed in this different realm that feels so real it has you reaching for your survival guide.

Jason V (au) wrote: Even in the world of merchandise tie-in animated movies, this Rainbow Brite outing is pretty terrible. One of the main points of the film revolves around the Big Bad tying a rope around a planet and towing it to her home with a spaceship. Yeah, okay. Then there are the unnecessary comic asides with two bumbling villains that don't work on any level. Over on the editing and scripting side, the action constantly shifts away from Rainbow Brite and her mission just to keep the ancillary characters fresh in the minds of the audience. Those minor scenes, though, last a whopping 30 to 45 seconds, never providing enough time for those sequences to do anything of importance. The end result is a film that goes beyond cheesy to so sugary sweet I wanted to get my teeth checked after watching it. Even other blatant money grabs of the decade like the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies included risk and, well, real world stakes. There's nothing like that here, if you include winter not being able to go away...and the people of Earth literally giving up because of the snow and grayness. Really?

Dave J (nl) wrote: Tuesday, September 2, 2014 (1976) St. Ives MYSTERY SUSPENSE It's supposed to be Charles Bronson's variation of "Chinatown" directed by J. Lee Thompson, the first of 8 movies with the actor. Adapted from the Ross Thomas novel starring Bronson as crime writer, Raymond 'ST. Ives' being hired as the middle man to pay an unknown extortionist to return some incriminating journals stolen from wealthy businessman, Abner Procane (John Houseman). It's supposed to be a cinch right- wrong. The person St. Ives was supposed to meet which was at the dry cleaners has been found dead, pointing the culprit to be anyone. There's not enough Bronson sarcastic humor to keep this movie interesting. It also lacks action as well as some common sense. 2 out of 4 stars

Daniel P (nl) wrote: The chief pleasure from watching this film is from admiring the nuanced acting from the four leads (Hardy, Rapace and Schoenaerts - a Brit, a Swede and a Belgian effortlessly convincing as lived-in New York/Jersey residents). The storytelling is not a strength - the plot beats are weak and the framework is derivative, though the third-act twist is done with verve - and there's nothing in The Drop that will leave a lasting impression. But those performances are noteworthy.
Michael H (de) wrote: Nearly fell off my seat laughing when I saw it at the cinema. Not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a comedy and does exactly what it says on the tin.
