Across the board the writing directing casting acting cinematography are all very good. Grant H (kr) wrote: Great movie. Flatliners initially offers a smart and original idea, but slowly delves into formula. It still is suspenseful, stylish, and intriguing and has great performances from its cast, especially Sutherland, Bacon and Roberts, and great direction from Schumaker.
Brandon S (jp) wrote: Say what you will about the startlingly bad climax, underdeveloped and painfully uninteresting characters, overwrought script and terrible performances; this action-horror fiesta is nothing short of exciting and fun. She falls in with a loser named Lee and the two make like BONNIE AND CLYDE in this quick and dirty indie gem. Kelly Reichardt's directorial debut is overflowing with ideas; it appears the writer/director flushed all the film school style out of her system with this project before charting new territory. RIVER OF GRASS is a brisket but nevertheless striking debut.
Will M (es) wrote: OK, first of all why so much hate for this movie? In my opinion Jaws 3D was way worse by a mile. And this actually had a pretty decent plot, the shark was well done, and so was that banana boat scene. Ok, now we have got the good stuff out of the way. The acting. Oh god, the acting!!! It was T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E. And that bit when the shark was exploding was poorly done, even the Star Wars (1977) death star explosion was better! Overall, it was stupid, terrible acting, BUT. Entertaining!
