Esther K (au) wrote: the beginning of the movie was so-so.. but the second half was quite touching.. tian kuo's parents are so funny/cute/nice/supportive - the best set of parents i've seen on film yet! i watched this movie coz i saw it being mentioned on tw news, and apparently the rating was quite good.. i usually don't pay much attention to tw news (they hardly ever report anything worthwhile, and it just keeps repeating) but i don't regret watching this :P

Amy M (it) wrote: Mostly just made me miss Gilmore Girls and Friday Night Lights. It was cute enough, but I could have done without the dead cat gag, and the ending pissed me off.

Andre D (mx) wrote: This James Bond movie has an eye catching title, which is we expected it as a high quality movie. Turns out, that expectation isn't wrong, Skyfall brings a whole new level of agency and espionage.

Amie S (fr) wrote: This gave me some serious "workin' at the video store" flashbacks. It had a few funny moments, but overall the main character was a little too over-the-top awkward, and I could have done with less geek nakedness. :)

Richard R (au) wrote: What works for Inge on stage now seems to hardly work on film. This is the second movie of an Inge play I've seen and I've been disappointed by both. The first one was "Bus Stop." I didn't know where to begin with that one - Monroe was trying so hard to prove that she was an "actress" that she came across as constipated. "Picnic" transferred better to screen than "Bus Stop," I'll admit, but I still ended up wishing I was watching it on stage. Casting is where I had the biggest problem with "Picnic:" Holden is too old; Russell too glamorous; neither Novak or Field are good actors. Holden and Russell have some good moments, but I didn't for a second believe any of their work. Novak's vapidness might have worked only if I'd believed that she truly wished to be anything but just pretty. Arthur O'Connell is charming and even as Howard, and there's nothing like seeing Verna Felton, the voice of so many animated characters of my youth (and before), in the flesh. But keep Inge on stage, please.

Gordon B (kr) wrote: If you dig swordplay, sorcerers, dragons, & maidens in distress then you should defiantly give this 80's fantasy film a whirl.

Darren R (us) wrote: I don't know, maybe I am the only cinephile who doesn't love Kurosawa, but I just don't get it. Tatsuya Nakadai, my favourite actor is completely wasted in this film. Everything is incredibly stagey and stuffy, as one would expect from Kurosawa. I do enjoy the police procedural parts, but I never find myself terribly interested in any of the characters.

Jenna G (kr) wrote: YAWN. The performances are the best thing about this movie. Amy Ryan needs to be in more movies!

John A (it) wrote: War & Horror Have Been Done Before, & This Is A Good Example For The Mixing Of Genre's. The Film Plays On The Fact Of Soldiers Missing Loved One's, As The Demon Takes On The Form Of The Woman The Men Love. This Widely Entertaining Film Features Some Good Gore Scenes And Has A Basic But Great Plot.
