Sex, Drugs & Taxation

Sex, Drugs & Taxation

Maybe the best thing to come out of Scandinavia during the hippie years was, in fact, the story of a radical libertarian and a hedonist capitalist. Their friendship, forged by being outsiders in a conformist country, took them through years of adulation and success, with slight detours into the welcoming arms of vilification and imprisonment. A joyride through taxation, mass travel, hookers and politics. Not feeling too constrained by historical facts, director Christoffer Boe's story of Simon Spies and Mogens Glistrup covers just a few of their decades in a tale of warmth and humour, defiance and eccentricity.

Ruan J (au) wrote: Rags to Riches is my kind of movie. Throw a little comedy into the mix (and the possibility of a romance) and I'm happy.

Heather G (it) wrote: This is the story of a British man and his 2 American daughters. They move to Italy in an attempt to cope with the death of the girls' mother, a death which the youngest child is directly responsible for. I enjoyed this film. I felt that it showed the family's problems in a realistic way; not only their grief, but also the father's struggle to care for 2 girls on his own, his tentative steps into new relationships, the youngest child's guilt, the older daughter's resentment of her sister and her own sexual awakening, and the whole family's attempts to ultimately move on and be happy. Recommended :)

Joshua S (de) wrote: Mothernight is based on the "Kurt Vonnegut" book about a US spy in germany that blurs the line between being a good spy and being helpful to the Nazis. This movie, and more so, Nick Nolte just didn't do it for me...

Kate M (fr) wrote: This is a really funny movie hahaha.. Watched it in Society

Sarah H (ru) wrote: The original Quatermass story is still the best, as the endless imitators demonstrate (yes, "The Astronaut's Wife," I'm looking at you). The film version, however, is diluted by a bland and characterless Prof. Quatermass, as well as an explosive ending that negates writer Nigel Kneale's intent. The long-lost BBC serial was almost certainly better.
