Shawn G (br) wrote: Great directing by Renny Harlin, however the story was a little confusing. I knew exactly who the real bad guy was the entire time, but I had no idea what was going on. A debacle, really.
Jay H (ag) wrote: A much more expansive documentary than the title would suggest, this film doesn't quite establish a focus, shifting between a fairly boring and meaningless travel documentary and two interesting, but distinct documentaries about Chinese-Tibetan relations and about the life of the 14th Dalai Lama. Despite its amateurish cinematography, creating the feel of a PBS nature documentary the entire time, the film is still fairly interesting and worth a watch if you have any interest at all in the important global issue of Tibet.

Buggy B (ru) wrote: This is a well done movie on all counts. Great performances from a bunch of top notch actors down to the smallest of roles. It's based on the true story of a single mother who filed a sexual harassment suit against the owners of a Minnesota mine where she worked in the 80's. Everything has been well executed here from the costumes to the dialogue to how you can feel the cold of Minnesota and the dirty, intimidation of the mine and its boys club. As a woman this is a super frustrating movie to watch, just vile the harassment and conditions that were deemed expectable. There are some really outstanding performances here from Theron, Renner, Jenkins and Frances Mcdormand blew me away. There's also some surprising sub plots. Just a well made movie. I can't imagine being afraid to go to work. 8/21/14

Ben L (fr) wrote: Basically every song in Cabaret and the way they were spliced in to augment the story was great. I loved that aspect and thought the singing from Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey was superb. It almost reminded me of Chicago and the way the musical numbers were woven throughout that film as a story-telling method (but I think Chicago might have done it a little better.)I keep going back and forth on whether I liked the rest of Cabaret. The love triangle was interesting and led to some surprises. I don't know if I ever believed Brian was actually attracted to Sally, but later I discover that's kind of the point. Their interactions seem rather cold, though, as if they didn't even like each other all that much. There could be more going on that I didn't see, and it might be obvious if I watched the movie again sometime. The odd thing about this film is the addition of the B-story. I can't figure out why this separate romance between the Jewish couple was even in the movie. It seemed as if they were simply there as a reminder of where and when these events take place. "See that persecuted Jew? That's because the Nazis are starting to take control." Those scenes weren't bad, just irrelevant. In fact, throughout the film it felt like they couldn't decide how much they wanted to reference the Nazi threat. At times it almost fades into the background but later it would seriously impact the stars of the movie. I don't know if I wanted it to be more important or less, or maybe it was perfect as it was presented. As you can see I'm still puzzled by Cabaret and have conflicted feelings about it. This is one movie that I'll need to watch again sometime and decide just how good or bad it is.

Peter P (br) wrote: Really well done sequel to the first Dirty Harry movie. Clint Eastwood is right on point returning as Callahan, and it was kinda funny to see him as the guy with the moral center. The action and story are nice and tight, and the motorcycle/car chase is great.
