Ian C (kr) wrote: A thriller centered around a double cross, which reminded me alot of the Coen Brothers classic 'Blood Simple'. A bar owner/drug dealer hires a Crotian cowboy to whack somebody who owes him money. A weak plot with so many holes in it and there are no answers or motives for anything that happens after the hit. Director Paul China does create plenty of tension and suspension but when it matters he doesn't deliever. George Shevtson is excellent as the shady bar owner Slim Walding and a nice twitch off Georgina Haig.

Robbie N (jp) wrote: What I expected to be a generic superhero movie, Megamind shocked me quite a bit. First of all, the cast. All the actors are brilliant and bring life to significant, colourful and lively characters throughout the movie. The romance is well done, despite being rather random, and the twists can make you laugh and shocked at the same time. Megamind raised my expectations, and I will definitely be back if there is a sequel.

Nathan A (kr) wrote: I actually thought this was pretty good, but it's yet another movie built mostly upon visuals rather then story and characters, and so there's only so good it can be, and overall it's easily forgotten. The plot is practically non-existant, and there's some plot holes at the end.. like where the 25+ security people armed with automatic weapons came from. But who cares.. without them there'd be no gunfights right? And what wonderful gunfights they are. Several post processing tricks I've not seen used before make the fighting insanely intense, and super slow motion sequences (a nod to the video games) are always a big plus. Plus the way they work in the hallucinations are great. But those don't come until close to the end.. and the rest is boring enough I actually started this movie 3 weeks ago but didn't bother to finish it until now.

Elisa L (it) wrote: Dorothy is having a bad day. After her deranged boyfriend, Tony, trashes her apartment, steals her money and dyes her white dog, Pluto, bright pink, Dorothy runs into Petula who is on the brink of being strangled in a dark alley by her own boyfriend, Brian. She comes to Petula's defense and knocks Brian on the back of his head with a pipe. But complications arise. Somehow Brian turns up dead. If there's anyone Petula is more terrified of than her boyfriend, it's his even more dangerous older brother--who also happens to be her boss. With a scheme that seems to develop on its own, Petula tells him Brian has been kidnapped for a lot of ransom. They may as well get something out of the ordeal. But a corrupt, lascivious police detective uncovers the scheme and Dorothy's irate boyfriend shows up looking for revenge and leaving Petula and Dorothy at the mercy of three perilous men... and these men are rotten to the core - mean, stupid, awful human beings. Dorothy and Petula, while undeniably stupid in their choices of companions, are far better people - and infinitely more likeable - than these sad examples of manhood. The story moves along at a brisk pace and has a morbid sense of humor throughout, which leaves you laughing in spite of yourself. Dorothy and Petula aren't exactly deep characters, but they're not Laverne and Shirley, either. Their rapport is amusing, as are some of the more fantastic plot twists. The film, which is empowering to women in its odd way, has a violent, wacko energy that keeps it alive and is actually a lot of fun to watch. For folks who like a genuinely tense suspense film with heavy doses of black humor ... Beautiful Creatures is a definate must see.

Aaron S (ru) wrote: I couldn't make it through this movie. It was extremely dull. The trailer kept appearing on other films I watched recently, and it was intriguing, but after 45 minutes or so, I felt as if I could spend the remaining hour of the movie doing something more worthwhile... Skip this one!

Daryl T (es) wrote: Highly enjoyable and (seemingly) well budgeted. It's a mystery why it gets so few good reviews. Definitely better than B grade, this is an imaginative and funny scifi flick. In this genre it would have to be one of the best.

Ingela A (gb) wrote: This is a horrifying true story to dwarf any fiction. There are some excellent comments and observations on this film. The real villain is not the tortured murderer (extraordinarily fine performance by Jeffery DeMunn), taking out his sexually frustrated anger on his victims-- mostly children. He is the objective. The real villain is the stifling bureaucratic Soviet system, drowning in its own corrupted incompetence. The frustration of an uncompromisingly dedicated man (Rea in his best role since "The Crying Game"), a facile pragmatist who's willing to use the system to his advantage (Sutherland always successful in this kind of role), a hesitant, frightened but determined psychiatrist (the incomparable Max Sydow), the bumbling, boopous bureaucrat of a prosecutor (brilliant Brit actor John Wood) and the quiet, supporting wife of the driven investigator (delightful supporter, Imelda Staunton). This is one damn fine film. Its darkness and bleakness are supported by the portrayal of a corrupt, incompetent system which works against success.

Martin T (mx) wrote: Well, I'll be damned. A movie where I DON'T hate Walter Brennan's guts. As opposed to his usual Western persona (the doddering, cranky, heavily mannered, oafish, unfunny comic relief who looks like he smells very, very bad) here he's quite dignified. The film is a grim wartime political thriller based on the true story of a Reich official assassinated in Czechoslovakia. Based VERY loosely, however, as the events in the movie have little to do with reality. Directed by Fritz Lang and written by Bertolt Brecht, their hearts are in the right place. But if we're going call out movies for being overly propagandistic, we can't exclude those we happen to agree with. This is really heavy-handed, black/white, good/evil stuff. The camerawork is sophisticated, the script is not. Still, it's a solid thriller that manages to be sufficiently gripping despite its lengthy running time. Lang pulls off some marvelous shots. And besides, it's hard to get too worked up about anti-Nazi propaganda, no matter how ham-fisted. It's closer to the truth about Nazis than most other movies from the same period.

Brian B (br) wrote: Going into this for the first time, I knew this would be a good movie and I would enjoy it. However, I had no idea that it would be this good. It practically blew me away. This movie follows how 6 people's lives are all intertwined in an action packed tale of gun violence, drug-use, and murder. What this film is most famous for is its twisted timeline which is never too confusing but also very impressive. When I first saw the beginning, I didn't think much of it and as the film progressed, I forgot about it. But when it comes back at the ending, I knew I was in for a treat. The movie has several of these surprises which will knock you out cold and they are made brilliant by its twisting plot. I was in awe when the credits first started to roll. Also, this movie has an outstanding soundtrack which is actually pretty recognizable and iconic. It is also very well-done too. I honestly feel that it perfectly fits the movie. Like Jaws, when I think of this movie, the soundtrack which played during the end credits instantly plays in my head. It may not be as iconic as Jaws's music but it definitely is of equal quality. Also, the acting couldn't be much better. In my opinion, John Travolta, Samuel Jackson, and Bruce Willis all gave perfect performances. They are all able to convey so many moods at once with their facial expressions and they couldn't do any better. This movie also has very great repeat watchability to it. The first viewing of this masterpiece is unforgettable. But just like Fight Club, this movie gets better and better every time you watch it. Mainly because the fact that you know what's going to happen and that you know all of its surprises, makes several scenes even more engaging. Also, this movie has so many iconic lines and scenes. It's super rare for a film to have 2 iconic scenes but this movie has several of them which have been retold and parodied so many times in pop culture. So in conclusion, this movie is in fact a masterpiece because of many reasons. It has changed cinema so much and it has shown the test of time for over 20 years. I think that this film is going to be remembered for many more decades also. I think that this is Tarantino's best film and I also think that it is one of the best movies ever made. I recommend this to everyone who enjoys action and complex plot structures to movies.
