Daniel P (it) wrote: Entirely unconvincing and illogical film that thinks it's the next "Dogtooth" or "Funny Games" (it has none of the former's wit or intelligence). Performances range from the blank to the comatose and, though the aim presumably is to shock, it's a dull slog despite some nice camera work.

Paul M (fr) wrote: Outstanding performances by Wendy Hiller and Geraldine Page in a "repressed sister-on-brother incest" melodrama from the southern gothic school. In addition, Gene Tierney gives a nicely judged performance (her last movie role, I believe) as Yvette Mimieux' elegant and scandalous momma (her black chauffeur is her implied lover). Dean Martin gives it the ol' college try in a role better suited to Tony Perkins or Laurence Harvey, but he looks purty uncomfortable as the whiny anti-hero of his sister's dreams .

Brandon W (gb) wrote: Barnyard is a mediocre kids film that is quite forgettable. The voice acting is great, and there are some actors that I didn't knew played those characters. The animation is impressive to look at, especially the car chase scenes, but there were some creepy designs that might scare the kids. The plot is your average kids movie, nothing really groundbreaking. The characters are your typical characters that you see in a lot of movies, and the main character is a bit of a selfish one at first that's not in an enjoyable way. The jokes are flat, and there are some that didn't really made sense. The songs are nice to listen to, but they seem more like pop culture references that doesn't really add much. There were moments that were pointless, and the villains, while having a bit of fun, are your stereotypical villains. There are some chuckles here and there, and the climax is kind of entertaining to watch. It's harmless for kids and they'll find it entertaining, but I do think that Barnyard would not entertain teenagers or half the adults and just find it uninspiring.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, it was interesting, exciting, visually and creatively intriguing. But I think I may have to spend a year in Russia before I can follow along with any sense of real understanding. I have not seen Night Watch though, I will go get it and then see if it all fits more... grin.

Jao R (au) wrote: the film is better watched without the knowledge and background of what or who it was based on. this is the true punch in the gut of the film. it is also what was intended by its director.
Bruno L (de) wrote: Interesting movie about the Vaticans role during WWII. The opening scene was very powerful. It's not a run of the mill anti-Nazi film. It's about a real person, Gerstein, who was a high ranking Nazi, but who did not want to participate in the exterminations. This movie is not well made, although it must have involved a lot of expense and effort. The acting was poor.

Edward C (de) wrote: Howard The Duck(1986)Starring:Lea Thompson,Jeffery Jones,Tim Robins,Ed Gale,Dominique Davalos,Holly Robinson Peete,Liz Sagel,Paul GuilfoyleDirected By:Willard HuyckReviewYOU WILL BELIEVE THAT A DUCK CAN TALK.From the guy who brought you Star Wars here is his decline as a good director/producer,Howard The Duck. A long time ago a great filmmaker helped make a parallel dimension in a galaxy far,far away. A strange world with bizarre aliens and unbelievable creatures. A world that the Scifi community will never forget,ok screw it it's Howard The Duck. ANd you thought Jar Jar Binks was bad wel he still is but Howard is equal to him.The film centers on this crazy cigar-chomping extraterrestrial duck named Howard who is accidentally beamed to earth and finds love with a pretty punk-rock singer. But their happiness is threatened when a space demon comes down from the beam that brought Howard. This has got to be the worst Marvel movie ever, its so bad bad it makes Elektra look Oscar worthy. It's the worst thing George Lucas help make since Star Wars Episode I which I think came after this shit. Apart from being silly, stupid and surprisingly boring this film is so mean spirited everything is shot in the dark, someone or something is always trying to kill Howard it's just a very unpleasant stupid movie with stupid and obnoxious characters that you couldn't give two shits about. You will believe a duck can blow. This film blows a half out of five.
Matty S (ag) wrote: Genet has never been captured quite this well. It is easy to imagine him loving every moment of this adaptation. Surreal, homoerotic and angry -- it is hard film to forget or ignore. ...every man kills the thing he loves. A must see from the Queer Film Theory perspective.
Clare E (fr) wrote: The plot summary sounded tacky, but I watched it as a lunchtime movie and fell in love with these 2 innocent people who shared something special for many years. Loved the way their attitudes changed over time and how their thoughts and lives were changed by events in U.S. history.
Ben L (fr) wrote: Paper Moon is excellent at capturing the feel of an old classic film that takes place during the Great Depression. I love the choice to film in black-and-white because it just seems right for the style of movie. The marvelous thing they did in this movie was using an actual father-daughter pair, because you could feel the connection between the characters even when the events or dialogue in the film seemed to be driving them apart. I loved the 2 main characters so much, and it was nice how they were slowly growing closer and becoming more defined characters as the movie went on. It's kind of amazing how charming they can make a pair of crooks, yet you find yourself completely rooting for them to be successful. I think my only stumbling block in the movie was the entire sequence with Madeline Kahn. She is a simply amazing actress, so connecting her with any complaint feels foolish, but I just didn't like the way her presence broke up the flow of the film. It was as if there was this consistent journey I was taken on, and suddenly it took a detour into an extended sub-plot which didn't do enough to keep the main story going. If it were shortened or perhaps rewritten a little I think it might have worked, but as it stood, it was the one time when I started to lose interest. However, despite this slow section in the middle, I was completely in love with Paper Moon and I think it is a movie that most people would enjoy.
