Roger Ebert praised the film, saying that "Chasing Mavericks is made with more care and intelligence than many another film starting with its template might have been. It's better than most movies targeted at teens. And the cinematography of the big Mavericks scene by Oliver Euclid and Bill Pope is so frightening that you sort of understand why Frosty stays on the shore, watching Jay with binoculars." Rotten Tomatoes gives it a score of 31% based on 79 reviews, with the consensus stating: "It's sweet, gentle, and affably modest, but Chasing Mavericks is ultimately pulled under by an unconvincing script and a puzzling lack of energy."the soundtrack is::SoundtrackReleased October 22, 20121."Plowed" by Sponge2."Brimful of Asha" by Cornershop3."Blue Light" by Mazzy Star4."Girlfriend" by Matthew Sweet5."Pepper" by Butthole Surfers6."Start Choppin" by Dinosaur Jr.7."Fade into You" by Mazzy Star8."Into Your Arms" by The Lemonheads9."I Need an Energy" by Greg Holden10."Chasing Mavericks Score Suite" by Chad Fischer Other songs used in the film "Come Out and Play" by The Offspring"Honey Baby" by Jules Larson ProductionThe film went into production in October 2011 with a scheduled release date of October 26, 2012. Jerrod F (ca) wrote: Great movie. The director did a excellent job portraying early stages of a non conventional relationship, that might or might not work.

Adam B (gb) wrote: Highlight: in a move that defies all logic Christopher Walken shoots the pilot of a fighter jet dead from the cockpit of his own plane with a hand gun, killing him without breaking any glass

Gavin P (gb) wrote: A long, sometimes overly dramatic, samurai epic. It's really more about a dysfunctional family than Japanese war, as two brothers oust their father and the ostracized brother has to try to save the day. Still, some great battle scenes (thanks for the colours defining who's on which side!), plenty of violence, but overall, it's very depressing.

bill s (nl) wrote: This is one of Norris;s best movies......a fung fu western.

Mark James A (au) wrote: The jokes were kinda smart and the characters were actually fun to watch but there are times that it could get overrated, vapid and dispiriting. Besides, the entire film is way too short that it seems like a working progress. Yes, it was trashy but what'd you expect? It's a spoof and this shouldn't really be taken seriously.

Nick B (nl) wrote: This movie had a really cool idea behind it. Unfortunately, it just gets all a bit too weird by the end

Fred V (us) wrote: You know, it's not as bad as I thought it would be going into it. Jim Carrey, Lauren Hutton, and Cleavon Little all give very charismatic performances, it had some legitimately funny moments, and all the 80s cheesiness was worth the watch. I mean, it's no John Hughes movie, but it's not bad.
