Sleeping Sickness

Sleeping Sickness

Ebbo and Vera Velten have spent the better part of the past twenty years living in different African countries. Ebbo is the manager of a sleeping sickness programme. His work is fulfilling. Vera, however, feels increasingly lost in Yaounde’s ex-pat community. She can’t bear the separation from her 14-year-old daughter, Helen, who is attending boarding school in Germany. Ebbo must give up his life in Africa or he risks losing the woman he loves. But his fear of returning to a land now remote to him increases with each passing day. Years later. Alex Nzila, a young French doctor of Congolese origin, travels to Cameroon to evaluate a development project. It’s been a long time since he set foot on this continent, but, instead of finding new prospects, he encounters a destructive, lost man. Like a phantom, Ebbo slips away from his evaluator.

Greg W (fr) wrote: gr8 cast really brings the funny in a Woody Allenish kinda way.

Dany L (jp) wrote: The dutch version of Captain Phillips, I liked this one better as their were more characters impacted. Gripping.

Michael P (it) wrote: This isn't a movie it's porn!

Joi W (mx) wrote: This is a movie that wasn't very popular-- still isn't -- but it doesn't have to be. The fact that it's underground solidifies the seriousness of the issues that ALL African Americans deal with while trying to stay real to the culture or selling out completely for the White Man's acceptance.

Guido S (de) wrote: Rick Moranis is back with his family, and this time, he is trying to create a laser to blow stuff up, more in the enlarge sense of the word though. So inadvertently, his youngest kid get the treatment this time. He grows and makes his way to Las Vegas. Keri Russell is the babysitter and is brought along for the romance with the son. This film doesn't have quite the fun of the first one and starts to wear out its welcome once he gets to Vegas, then there is still a lot of film left at that point. Typical sappy ending at the end too. The first one was better.

Justin B (jp) wrote: Gritty, violent and taken more seriously; a precursor to what we'd see in the Daniel Craig era.

Brinn O (nl) wrote: Some of the best physical comedy in history.

Tom D (us) wrote: This is a fun movie with the 3 lead characters all playing well off of each other. There are some funny moments and scenes scattered throughout the film. The script is an interesting look on minor league baseball life. I would recommend this movie.

Barry K (ag) wrote: After seeing Comcast's description calling this an "unforgettable, retro comedy" I had to come back and write just how completely horrible this movie is. If the goal was to be this writer's "The Way, Way Back" or similar coming of age story, the term "EPIC FAIL" seems most appropriate. I question the mental state of the few big names that participated, but until a project is complete, I could understand giving more credit that something will turn out well than the finished product merits.

Tony C (gb) wrote: Great superhero parody with laughs and heart. Very quotable, memorable and amoung my top 10 in the comedy catagory.
