Kelly L (us) wrote: A movie as real as life itself about a selfless woman who everyone scorned as a murderer. Who knows, maybe she even was but she dedicated her life to taking care of others and no one was the wiser. Or did she? Maybe she harbored dark secrets of the worst kind. Why else would her daughter ostracize her and turn to drugs and booze? What is really going on with this woman? One thing is for sure, you can trust the performances of these great actors to be so perfectly nuanced that they will take you to a crystal clear understanding of what's really going on with Dolores Claiborne.

Steve M (jp) wrote: Def by Temptation Starring: James Bond III and Kadeem Hardison Director: James Bond III 'Def by Temptation' is the tale of a young preacher-in-training (James Bond III, who also wrote and directed the flick) who takes a break from his studies to spend time with his childhood friend (Kadeem Hardison) in NYC, obstensibly to get to know a little about the world. He gets a little more than he bargains for, as he gets caught in the web of a demoness who is single-handedly depopulating a pick-up joint. (The demon preys on human weaknesses, such as lust and greed.) The big question: Will the young preacher remain pure and alive, or will he join the demon's list of victims? Pacing- and story-wise, this is a standard B-Movie. It's a touch more upscale/serious than a typical Troma release, but it still has its share of humorous moments. The cinematography and lighting is above average... and there's actually a bit of acting going on in a number of scenes! (James Bond III is not one of the highlights, unfortunately.) There are a number of confused moments in the storyline, but none are fatally distracting, so, all in all, this is a fun romp.

David C (br) wrote: The wartime South Pacific depicted here is populated by youthful Americans, the most emotionally sensitive of whom are seduced by Orientalist visions of an exotic paradise. Also dwelling here is a European expatriate, less naive than the Americans but with complex and very personal ties to the place. Locals live here too, of course, but they are viewed, intentionally, through the imperfect lens of foreign observers. The film's style vacillates between that of a mainstream movie musical and that of a more abstract work of cultural criticism; it is entertaining and intellectually satisfying, perhaps especially for those who have some familiarity with the subject matter.

Ben C (br) wrote: Scary Movie is not meant to be taken seriously, judging by the jokes being thrown at the wall and hoping that they stick. Fortunately, most of them do (barring some out of the ballpark jokes and some that just don't make it), and the jokes that they have, their magnum opus perhaps lands in the movie theatre. The Wayans duo in Shawn and Marlon play characters that are capable of stealing the show and skewering the line of comedy; the former playing a possibly-bisexual quarterback with an unhealthy obsession, while the latter plays a typical stoner who spurts out some of the funniest jokes the movie has to offer. If you're in for some laughs, then Scary Movie can deliver, granted if you can handle the jokes.
