(us) wrote: Here's the thing about successful romantic comedies: you want the two leads to end up together. And I just didn't feel that way in this one. Most of the reason is because Calvin really is not likable at all. The movie goes to lengths to point out all of his flaws, and you see how much he manipulates Ruby to what he wants. I was wishing she would just break up with him. Zoe Kazan is lovely in this, but the scene where she had to act out everything Calvin was typing was very annoying. I think there are some decent ideas in this movie, but the execution just wasn't there. See Stranger Than Fiction instead.

(mx) wrote: I started three days ago a little foreign movies cycle, i'm trying to be a little more open in cinema so first one i saw is 2008 Rudo y Cursi... A very nice addition to a list of works from Carlos Cuaron, who also directed 2001 Y tu mama tambin, (it's also produced by alfonso cuaron director of children of man), A great story about two brothers who work hard and underpayed in a plantation from a little village in mexico, wich by faith and destiny come by a soccer manager, that disregarding his age that is a little passed over, invites them to try out in a team in The Capital, there's only one issue, he can't take only one of them!... Well, i don't like to give out spolier in my reviews so just watch it, is well acted Featuring Diego Luna And Gael Garcia Bernal, two great mexican actors. It's also directed in a very sober and pure way that allows you to see from a different perspective the real mexico, both the Big capital and the little border town. The script is also very real, and there are plenty of cracking funny parts... A great Drama-comedy about two brothers passionate by soccer and strugling to survive in one of the hardest cities of the world, facing denigration of being "rancheros" (rednecks?) with no education, over aged to sport, and the temptation that fame brings with it: Easy Money, Gambling, Fake friends, fake love, drugs...and it goes on and on...

(ag) wrote: I thoroughly enjoyed this, the humour is monty python-esque and the music is good (they really sound and look like the Beatles). One of the best mockumentaries that I've seen.
(nl) wrote: Not a fantastic piece of work, but well-written and interesting. Peter Lorre is, of course, the reason to watch the movie - although the ending was really silly and definitely felt tacked on.
