Nick L (ru) wrote: I was expecting an emotional journey with raw acting and emotions as I sat down to watch a movie from someone who created Children of Heaven and Colors of Paradise...There are directors who give one or two classics and are considered immortal and then there's Majid Majidi who gives classic back to back. Well I don't have words for him.I only had one problem with the film which is very personal and no point discussing it. The simplicity of the film and the simplicity of cinematography are exemplary. Way the beauty of Tehran is captured is amazing. Each scene is aesthetic yet poignant. With minimal dialogues and no dialogues for the girl playing the title role it is quite an experimental film.It is incredible how as you watch the film your natural inclination to see the situation solved is completely drowned out by the motion of the film. It(TM)s unusual to find such a philosophical film that keeps both your eyes and heart wide awake. The truly altruistic nature of love, the crazy things it makes you do and not regret are born out in this film in beautiful ways. From an Iranian perspective it is an interesting look at cross-cultural phenomena but I know the average West doesn't know enough about Afghani, Kurdish and Iranian culture to appreciate that. You see this coming from the start but I'll warn you that the next thing I say might spoil part of the film for you:My favorite scene is at the end when she drops her burka as she realizes he loves her, realizing how dangerous her beauty is, how it has left this poor boy in emotional and financial chaos and how she cannot do anything to help.If you have not seen this film you are completely missing one genre of films.
Scott A (es) wrote: This was another Williamson film in the SCREAM wake, mostly thought that it would be a horror film cause it was originally called KILLING MRS. TINGLE, but Columbine kind of changed that. But it's more a Dark Comedy.Holmes doesn't have much range. She's almost always playing Joey Potter from Dawson's Creek. No difference here, only she gets a tad tramp as the film goes on. Watson is just a pretty boy role. Boring. The real meat in this cast comes from Mirren as Tingle. She is such an evil bitch. The way she tries to play them all against each other is evil. Her scene where she destroys them all when they are doing their History projects, just a mean lady. And Coughlan is so very good here. I have always felt Hollywood forgot about her. I've only seen her in a handful of movies and she's always so good. I thought she would be huge after this movie, but alas it never happened.Fox is a mere cameo in one scene, and Ringwald is so funny in her few scenes. But the end of the movie seems too easy, as they did kidnap a teacher. Seems like no one cared?

SV G (nl) wrote: Cagney gives a wonderful performance playing Lon Chaney in this bio-drama of Chaney's life story. Cagney shows both his acting chops as well as his dancing and vaudiville talents in this. Jim Backus gives a good performance as well as his loyal friend and agent. This is more fact than fiction which is unusual for most biographies brought to the big screen and very well done and a right and proper homage to Lon Chaney.
Art S (nl) wrote: There's something extra seedy about the newspaper game in While the City Sleeps (which is also a murder mystery in which the killer is known from the start). Lang's cynicism is brutal, as everyone's out to score the big scoop, and only the threat of libel stops them from publishing whatever they can get from the cops. Dana Andrews is a drunken sleaze who uses his girlfriend as bait to catch the killer and land the big story. Indeed, everyone here has compromised their morals.
