Although the female love interest of Quinn is hardly believable in her role, as the actress is in her early thirties, overall a solidly funny film, and one with an incredible twist at the end. Although it is quite formulaic at times, it was entertaining and definitely worth watching.

It reminds me of Haneke's 'Hidden' in that it demonstrates the repressed tension and violence underlying the banal placidity of an ordinary marriage. Kahn's film is a wonderfully black investigation of how middle-class oppressiveness can result in people going off the rails entirely. The film is minimal in its use of emotional effects, and in a Hitchcockian way has a mysterious narrative structure which is unsettling as the events themselves. The journey into the 'heart of darkness' in the midst of massive traffic reminds me of Godard's 'Weekend', but it's not quite as breezy and exuberant as Godard. An admirable film that is more than it seems on the surface.

(es) wrote: It's a little simplistic in its good vs. evil themes... oh, they try to make it look like Gary Cooper is conflicted, but you know all along he's a good guy and he's going to do the right thing. It's odd to put Julie London in a movie, label her character as a singer, and not even give her one tune. She's got a great set of pipes (and a great set of, ahem, something else) so let her use 'em. But it's an entertaining flick, and I've fully warmed up to Gary Cooper.
