(it) wrote: Made with $50,000 this film proves that low budget is not a problem in creating a fresh and cult class horror flick. Even though this film may be uneven at times and confusing due to some editing sequences but it's still be able to deliver the thrill, tension, violent, and even its humor well with its unique concept and plot. There are lots of violence here and some GORY scenes that's still in a satisfying level to its potential budget here as well as some SCARY and creepy performance. Overall, if you are looking for a FUN low budget horror film to try out, this film is definitely will be one of the top choices out there really fulfills its premise. [B]

(nl) wrote: Straight boring until the last 45 minutes. Welcome to the second outing for Danny Robbital, he's back being a super douche once again slashing away at the townies for calling his name or getting in his way. The problem with this and all slashers lie in their "Woe me woe me...feel pity on me" backstory which is apparently what drives them to be immortal serial killers, who kill each and every person they find for no apparent reason. The hook on is hand isn't really explained either...
(jp) wrote: A surprisingly involved (and dare I say somewhat nuanced?) horror film from veteran director J. Lee Thompson, who treats the material as seriously as he did CAPE FEAR or THE GUNS OF NAVARONE. The movie has a great look to it (I'm not sure how low-budget - or not - this film was, but it certainly looks nice and moody), and there are several standout suspense/death sequences; the final act, in particular, is very strong, going to some pretty bizarre (in a good way) and unexpected places. Toss in a solid lead performance from Melissa Sue Anderson, as well as support from the great Glenn Ford, and it all makes for an above-average slasher movie that doesn't insult the audience's intelligence.

Still there are definite gems in the script and it conveys the character's predicaments and how one event will be the tipping point in their lives, good and bad. Howard's character of a man out of step with current times is reminiscent of Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind.
