Stag

Ken Andrews (Faison) has been the orchestrator of the hazing pranks at all of his buddies' stags - elaborate, hilarious pranks that have left many emotional scars and a few physical ones. And now today is Ken's stag! He nervously awaits the fate that his pals surely have in store for him, comforted only by the knowledge that Carl (Pat Thornton) will be there to watch his back. That is, so long as Carl can extract himself from the Hollywood celebrity, Veronica (Amurri). Ken will soon discover that payback is worse than he could ever imagine. Written by Brett Heard

Mark N (ru) wrote: Hyperactive full length animated feature (whose adventures were stolen for those Cravendale milk adverts) about 3 plastic toys who set out on a high energy adventure across random landscapes and bizarre turns. Hugely fun and highly original, fun for anyone who loves something a bit different.

James H (it) wrote: LOW BUDGET, BUT IT DOES PRETTY WELL WITH THE BUDGET IT HAD. IT'S A RIP-OFF OF ALIEN, ALIENS, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, TERMINATOR 21, FUNNY GIRL, PREDATOR, PREDATOR 2, THE THING AND THE BLOB. JUST WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT, NOTHING NEW HERE. (JUST KIDDING ABOUT FUNNY GIRL)

Mark N (es) wrote: Chronically poor storytelling ruins what could have been an interesting and brave movie. Everything is a struggle: McConaughey struggles to bring redeeming qualities to his unpleasantly flawed character and Beckinsale seems lost as to what her character feels about her situation. Dinklage suffers trying to deliver an appalling French accent and worst of all Oldman has to play the lead dwarf in a cast of mainly dwarves. The worst crime is that the central issue, of whether your baby might be born with dwarfism, could easily be cleared up by any doctor as it's actually massively unlikely given the situation presented.

Simon T (fr) wrote: A real surprise: if you can accept the ridiculous premise and the fact that Barbra Streisand looks about as masculine as Sophia Loren, this is actually a good musical. It's helped hugely by a lovely score from Michel Legrand, uncharacteristically restrained performances from Streisand and Mandy Patinkin, and good direction again from Streisand. It's overlong, and Amy Irving seems to have been lobotomised, but otherwise far better than you'd expect.

Zhanyi J (ca) wrote: Pacing, acting, and direction were all fantastic in this film. A few negative points were the topical Hollywood forced romance and traditional ending.

David F (it) wrote: An archtypical exotic Hollywood romance that brought the wonder of far-flung foreign locales to dusty Depression theaters everywhere, Algiers stars Boyer as Pepe Le Moko, a suave jewel thief holed up in 'zee Casbah' - free to move around within while remaining elusive to French authorties, but unable to leave without being captured - only Lamarr, and the Paris she represents, can serve as bait to lure him out. Movie has solid pacing, convincing sets, and a great supporting character in Joseph Calleia's Slimane - patient, amiable and a worthy adversary to LeMoko. Good stuff.
