(us) wrote: A gritty, graphic take on a Jules Verne tale focusing on a man entrusted with the upkeep of a lighthouse eventually overrun by murderous pirates intent on luring ships to their grave (and stealing everything on board in the process) this flick (made in 1971) comes off with the intensity of a violent spaghetti western - and unexpectedly so. Starring two legends (Douglas and Brynner) Light At the Edge of the World is not for the weak at heart. Bleak, savage and unrelenting, forget everything you think you may experience - and sit back instead for an adventure just this side of fare such as Last House on the Left or Straw Dogs. Totally unexpected - yet totally captivating and enjoyable. Not quite exploitation, but wading in nearby waters.

I do appreciate that it is basically a 90 minutes of a string of cool action sequences that range from meh to cool (particularly the Wonder Women scenes are the best argument that she is by far one of the coolest superheroes in the DC Universe). However, the characterizations of most of the heroes, particularly Wonder Woman, come off of what a middle age man would think a 16 year old boy would find cool. All bravado and shallow one liners, not an ounce of depth or character.
(br) wrote: Jennifer was really quite a cutie. It a crazy muppet film, filled with crazy characters. Never seen it before. Quite ridiculus at the beginning and many other times thoughout, which could be a quality for a comedic film. Great set and animations.
