All thoughts that you will find racing through your head as you take the irresistible ride through the eyes of a family just trying to survive the night. From the beginning you are faced with the Sandin clan who are placed in an impossible situation, either give up "the homeless swine" who has found refuge within their homes or face inevitability. The film deals with the element of morality and ultimately forces the family's patriarch, Ethan Hawke's character James to make sacrifices. The film proves that no matter the situation, no matter how much money or isolation you can provide, no one is every completely safe, not from their friends nor complete strangers. The thrill of the Purge are fueled by hatred and our own intense desires to release our inner beast!

I haven't played any of the Ace Attorney games, but I have seen videos of it before that I'm a bit familiar with the characters, the story, and the style of gameplay. So when I saw the trailer for it, I'm looking forward to it despite being skeptical of the fact that it's a video game adaptation film. The only problem however, is that the DVD copies of Ace Attorney are not in North America, and it's been out for 4 years in Japan. Luckily I've managed to find one on YouTube, even if it's not in the best condition, and I can say that not only is it one of the most faithful video game adaptations I've seen since Silent Hill probably, but it's the best I've seen so far. The acting is pretty good, which I know some people might have a problem with it being over the top, but it worked for the film's humor. The characters in this, actually look like the characters from the video game, and the plot is mostly like it too, which I didn't think was possible. The way that it shows the evidence to the crowd was very clever, and it brings out some great visual effects. The humor in it is pretty funny, but then there were weird moments that were a bit too silly for me to handle. There were some characters that are developed fine like Phoenix Wright, Larry Butz, Miles Edgeworth, and some others, but there are other characters that really could've been worked in and not be bland in this film. It is a bit overlong, but those are the only problems that I have with it as I have a great time watching Ace Attorney, and I hope that we can finally find the definitive video game adaptation film in the US that is just as faithful to the source material as Ace Attorney is.

(it) wrote: The relationships is this movie just confused me. I don't understand how or why the female lead switches her attention and attraction between two of the male characters. It just doesn't make sense and seems to be in there because the guy is supposed to get the girl. Otherwise, I enjoyed Rickman's performance. Overall, this movie lacked impact.

(jp) wrote: Cheesy, but who doesnt love that? Be sure to watch it in the original French as the English dub is terrible, as it to be expected in any dub. oh, and theres a scene about halfway through were Jean Reno plays DDR. i thought my heart may explode in ecstasy. or maybe it was a bad dose of ecstasy. whatever. Drug references aside, very exciting to see Jean Reno beat peoples in teh face with clubs of golfing.

I am not refering to the few war sequences per say, which are masterfully made in camera, but the story is so intense and the mood is constantly edgy. The performances are very strong, the cinematography is truly astonishing and the sound mix is so absorbing; this is an extraordianry film that audaciously goes deep into the darkness and has profound commentaries that are illustrated in a tour de force marriage of sight and sound!
(ru) wrote: Such a wonderful movie! I have been wanting to see it for quite some time, and I just finished watching it. It has so many things going for it!! And it's such a unique role for Julie. The music was beautiful, the costumes were gorgeous, and the plot was fun, though at times, very suspenseful. I love that though it was made in 1970, it still very much had the feel of an older classic (ca 1950's). We really don't have movies like this anymore!
(kr) wrote: Funny but weird, with a returned pair-up between its main cast trying to get back together and working it out since an episode of Aniston's "Friends".Aniston's good in both portions of the rom-com, while Stiller's a little more in the romance portion than the comedy. His time to the comedy portion on bringing funny is between the good actor Hoffman doing most of it and Baldwin doing a little like occasionally. (B)(Full review coming soon)
