Still Life

According to Harun Farocki, today's photographers working in advertising are, in a way, continuing the tradition of 17th century Flemish painters in that they depict objects from everyday life - the "still life". The filmmaker illustrates this intriguing hypothesis with three documentary sequences which show the photographers at work creating a contemporary "still life": a cheese-board, beer glasses and an expensive watch.

Walter C (gb) wrote: Bob Funk is recently divorced and works for his mother. He comes to work everyday drunk and sleeps around with any woman he picks up at the bar. He has to turn his life around. The movie is half bad comedy and half bad drama. I could care less about the main character and his problems and a movie like this relies on how much you care about the main character.

Jay C (fr) wrote: This movie served its moral value purpose and the casting per character throughout the movie matches just right. I laughed throughout the movie and cried at the right moment even knowing its simplistic storyline progression. A beautiful movie that speaks to those who are suffering or struggling to make ends meet, especially in asia where everyday life is tough with fear. Unfortunately, some critics lack the knowledge to understand the meaning behind this movie and some critics lack a wide sense of humour.

Noname (ru) wrote: A decent sci-fi action movie with a mix of Pathfinder and AVP style kinda. First it seemed a bit strange crossing Vikings (Iron age) with futuristic alien stuff but it turned out really good in the end with a solid story. James Caviezel starrs in the main role as the "Outlander". Other famous ones are Ron Perlman and John Hurt. If this flick sounds interesting i can recommened it. No masterpiece tho but worth seeing..

Gordon B (it) wrote: Its not a good movie, in fact it's trash, but that doesn't mean that its not good at being trash

Dolores H (es) wrote: Boring story and weird singing bits. Not sure it's my cup of tea although Gong Li and the direction was brilliant. Too arthouse for me!

Jacob M (mx) wrote: "Bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire."Elvis Presley was one of the greatest rock-and-roll entertainers who ever lived, though his film on the other hand, depends on what you're watching. On one side, we have films like Jailhouse Rock, an entertaining songfest and good acting despite a clichd story, and on the other we have films like Kissin' Cousins, a forgettable film with dull humor and awkward acting. Viva Las Vegas joins Jailhouse Rock as an entertaining show-stopper, and is likely Presley's best film.Elvis plays Lucky Jackson, a race-car driver intending to win the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Despite an obstacle, by losing his money, he gets a job as a casino waiter to get the money back for a new motor. Along the way, he falls for swimming instructor Rusty Martin (Ann-Margaret), but all she's concerned about is his safety on the road. The film also stars Cesare Danova as foreign racing competitor Count Elmo Mancini and William Demarest as Margaret's fish-loving father. Why did I enjoy this film over Jailhouse Rock? Well, it's more fun. Yeah the story is still a little predictable to whether Elvis will win the race and get the girl, but throughout the film, I was having a ton of fun. I wanted to see this film since I was 5 years old and never got the chance to finally see it until now. Yeah it was definitely worth the wait.Like the 60's Ocean's 11, it was really great to see the looks of Vegas from that time period. While Vegas wasn't out of control back then as it is now, just seeing all the bright lights make for an impressive cinematic view of the famed city. Obviously Elvis Presley was an excellent entertainer, and like in Jailhouse Rock, he can actually act. Presley managed to show a wild and "dangerous" side in Jailhouse Rock, while here, he's fun, he's dedicated, and he's awesome. Ann-Margaret, on the other hand, is also really awesome. Margaret was a perfect choice for the role; beforehand, she had already scored two top-ten hits, and was huge in her breakout role in the Elvis-spoofing Bye Bye Birdie. It's ironic that she would costar with Elvis after being in an Elvis spoof movie, but as it turns out, Elvis and Margaret have excellent chemistry together and they make one of the most memorable musical couples in all of Hollywood. It makes me wonder what would happen if they did more films, then Elvis's film world would have a lot more fans. The biggest part of Viva Las Vegas is definitely the soundtrack. There's at least 12 songs, and each one is remarkably entertaining. The choreography is fun, Elvis and Ann are having their fun moments, and they made an incredible duo. The best numbers are, obviously, Presley's title number, "Viva Las Vegas", Elvis and Ann's memorable duet "The Lady Loves Me", and Ann having an awesome dancing moment in a talent contest.Viva Las Vegas, from what I've watched in the Elvis library, is definitely "The King's" most awesome. The cinematography is stellar, the presence of Elvis and Ann-Margaret are stellar, and despite a predictable story, it manages to be really fun and made me enjoy the ride, pus it has a pretty enjoyable racing scene towards the end of the film. Final word, if you want to know why I enjoy Elvis's music, then this is truly the film to watch.

Raji K (de) wrote: Paul Hogan co-writes and stars in Crocodile Dundee. Linda Kozlowski is a Sue Carlton, a news reporter that is going to Australia to get the story on a man who was nearly eaten by a crocodile, but manages to survive. She heads down under and assures herself that as a New Yorker she can handle anything. She winds up in Walkabout Creek where she meets a native Walter Reilly (Wally). Things seem innocent enough at first, but soon she finds out Australia is no walk in the park. She does all she can to avoid being the damsel into distress as Dundee (Hogan), fends off poachers, snakes, and of course crocodiles. Some of the shots of Australia were wonderful as well as some of the interactions with the wildlife. His charming good looks and confident manner has her falling for him and she asks him to come to New York. Feeling the same way about her as she does, he heads off to New York and the tables turn. He is now subject to all the foreign and dangerous entities of New York City. He encounters nothing short of knife wielding criminals, prostitutes, pimps and drugs. The strength in the comedy is demonstrating how simple everyday things we come across, can be completely foreign to others. The concept of bidets, cocaine, and crossdressers are some of the things he encounters to flex the movie's comedic muscle. Dundee's nave and carefree attitude to the dangers he encounters make the film entertaining. Sue and Mick Dundee's chemistry was also charming to watch. Crocodile Dundee is a fun and original comedy. The movie is not ageless, but the core concepts of the comedy remain entertaining. In many ways Dundee in New York is like a modern Tarzan. Although hardly anyone would encounter all the things Dundee does in a lifetime that Dundee does in a week, this does not matter much. The fish out of water tale was smash hit that made million and earned an Oscar nomination for best writing directly for a screenplay. What matters the most is Hogan really created a fun character, and Kozlowski was dynamic and sexy as Sue. -10.15.2016
