(ru) wrote: Jon Gnarr is an Icelandic comedia, and has been for quite some time (over 20 years). He's been fed up with the banality of politics and their inhabitants. He jokingly decides to run for Mayor of the nation's capital, Rekjavik. His competitors are appalled and amused that he's taking a stab at the important position. Gnarr, in a brilliantly organic and effortless fashion, derides the politics and politicians for their inexcusable boringness and lack of flavor. He eventually believes that the people of Iceland need a leader with a sense of humor, someone bright but also someone who isn't afraid to mess around and liven the mood. This little joke turns into a question of what people want out of a leader when it comes to persona. It is riveting juxtaposing Icelandic humor and what Americans find comical because the contrast is salient. In the end, we find Gnarr, who's party is freshly entitled "The Best Party," actually prevailing in the election followed by baby-kissing. This unbelievable triumph accentuates who important humor is around the world because it's not an art form, it's simply a life form; it's ubiquitous, whether or not it's vocalized.

Hoping the second will be a lot better... clearly influenced by the French cinematic approach, this film is light on plot, insight, character development and heavy on prolonged scenes of silence. Watch on fast forward and you won't miss much. Painfully dull but interesting to see the conflict in Chad given some prominence.

(kr) wrote: The film starts off with an incident that occurs in the 12th century when Shaivite intolerance against Vaishnavites was at its peak. An ardent Vishnu devotee loses his life to save the idol of Lord Ranganatha. Kamal plays his first role of Vishnu devotee Rangarajan in this episode which is marked by excellent technical work and the actor's extraordinary performance. From here, the film goes to a time when the whole world is on the brink of a biological warfare waged by terrorists. Actively opposing them is the American president who urges the rest of the world to combat this evil. Meanwhile, a computer chip containing a vicious biological material goes missing from a laboratory in the United States. An in-house scientist Govinda [Images] (again played by Kamal Haasan) who is aware of the dangers of the material launches a hunt for the missing material, which takes him to India. In the course of the hunt for the missing chip, Kamal takes on eight more characters and travels to many continents.a very different movie from the south indian cinema. i liked it but it was very weird but visually stunning i had good time.

Two oddly ladies, with own marital problems learn to know each other and become very good friends. Mesmerizing song, "Calling You" probably is the best part of the movie.

(es) wrote: Easily could have been a typical thriller- vulnerable woman, private detective saves the day just as the villian finishes monologing. But Klute is only half thriller, and half emotional drama. Some parts I found completely scary, due both to great shots and a genuine investment in the characters. I think what makes it a great movie is that it allowed Jane Fonda's character to be the center. That let it handle the subject of violence against women in a more nuanced light. Her character was very human and while she clearly had deep issues, it really gave a sense of the vulnerability inherent to love.
(au) wrote: Also know simply as "The Crimson Cult" this is a campy horror film set in a very Austin Powers-like swinging' 60s London, with Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee and Barbara Steele in a very loose adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "The Dreams in the Witch House." I don't seem to remember as many swinger parties in the original Lovecraft story, but it was still a pretty fun film, even if it's not at all true to it's source material. And how far wrong can you go with Barbara Steele painted green and playing a 300 year old witch.
(us) wrote: A very good plot twist movie, I have to admit. The whole movie is really intense and intriguing, and from the beginning of it, you can feel that there will be some big plot twist that will change everything, and in this movie, the plot twist is actually quite brilliant and doesn't ruin the movie. It makes it even better! The story is nothing special at first, a couple goes on their honeymoon, suddenly there's talk of some murderers and they begin suspecting people and whatnot, but after the 60 minute mark, it gets real good. Like, really really good! The twist is well worth the wait! The characters are interesting and likeable, but by the end of the movie, your opinions might change... The acting is suprisingly good for a movie that is 'sort of a' slasher. All in all, a great twist movie with good characterisation, but a cliche ending. Would recommend!
