Lisa R (jp) wrote: This is so very Altman, with the over lapping dialogue and crossover story lines and I am a fan. It had some very subtle funny and amusing moments, mostly from Laura Dern who was hilarious as an alcoholic, recently divorced southern belle. There was also an interesting if not particularly convincing lesbian sub-lot that I quite liked and the performances in general were all good. However, the characters, particularly most of the female characters were portrayed in a terrible light, they were either needy, bitchy, crazy, desperate, slutty or all of the above and it had one of the worst endings to a film I have ever seen, as it transcended into the ludicrous and surreal.

Devon (de) wrote: "Soul Man" is an embarrassing movie that somehow manages to be simultaneously intentionally and unintentionally racist. C. Thomas Howell plays a pampered rich kid whose parents cut him off just as he's been accepted to Harvard law school. He takes an overdose of "tanning" pills and voila! he's african american! Add to that a cheap afro wig, and he's gets a fully paid scholarship reserved for african american students. C. Thomas really doesn't look ethnic at all though, he just looks like a guy in blackface. Not alot of laughs in this movie, either intentional or post-ironic, it's just sort of average (although the sight of 90 lb C. Thomas punching out two guys who go FLYING across the room is pretty entertaining- what was it about punching a guy in the 80s that caused him to go flying 20 feet across a building?). Outside of the racism, it's a completely pedestrian waste of time.

He treats Humphrey Bogart as a teacher or a guide of some sorts to pick up women or at least to strive to act to pick up women. Humphrey Bogart is his alter ego in a way; he talks to the character of Humphrey Bogart in his head when needed.Allan just got divorced from his wife and now he's trying to learn from his mistake of being dull to find another woman. On his first date, which is a blind date, he is so nervous that he becomes entirely clumsy all around his house and it is hysterical. This is one of the best romantic comedies I have seen in a while. I can't wait to watch for Allen/Keaton films.Play It Again Sam, I give you a 100%.
Steve W (es) wrote: This animated film is great because of the source material, and the fact that it stays true to the comic's theme and tone. The art direction is solid but the voice acting for some of the characters is a little off.Keeping true to the excellent volumes of comics, All Star Superman is a very good adaptation. They choose to cut out a few story arcs such as Bizarro World and Doomsday, but they fit everything else into a very good story. One of the things it improves on is the action. It is the number one thing that graphic novels cannot do, so it takes advantage of the medium and give us a very good cinematic representation of the story.I consider this one of the best of the DC Showcase animated films.

N M (jp) wrote: Powerful acting but script has bowling ball size holes in the plot diminishes the movie to a pointless display of emotions from all the characters. Absolutely no credible context for the storyline and the structure of the film is way too overwrought. The plot flaws are so glaring, indeed even insulting to the viewer's intelligence, that it could be argued that this film dishonors real parents of emotionally disturbed and violent children. Ezra Miller's as well as Jasper Newell's performance are the only reasons to watch the film.
