Aries M (us) wrote: The book, as always the case in many adaptations, is way way better. It does not matter that the other critics did not read, or might even have no clue that there is a book written, the movie is still bad even without its counterpart literature to compare to.

After watching a group of small children gleefully playing with their fist-sized beetles, you'll be more then happy when your kid asks for a hamster or goldfish. I finally get the whole "Mothra" thing.
David M (au) wrote: An HBO-originated made for TV movie that received a deserved cinema release, this Steven Soderbergh directed film tells the story of Liberace's long affair with the much younger Scott Thorson, right up to and beyond the eventual death of the pianist. Even viewed on TV, as I did, it doesn't come off like a TV movie; Steven Sodebergh's efficient and composed direction marks this out as worth attention. However it doesn't really go to the depths worthy of the film's outstanding central performances (Michael Douglas as Liberace, Matt Damon as the lover). Liberace is pretty much as you expect the celebrity to be in this sort of story - initially attractive and engaging, then increasingly unpredictable and selfish. Scott Thorson is also as you expect the lover to be: star-struck, naive, enjoying the material benefits of his affair and eventually bitter, angry but still harbouring tender feelings. The narrative never feels quite engaging enough to grip or move; it's more of a genre piece, really - of rich prince and commoner lover lifted above his station. I was never really moved by it - fascinated, maybe; informed, potentially. However without a real interest in Liberace as an individual or artist, it didn't move above average. To say it's not a TV movie isn't a value judgement; it's a substance statement, describing the nature of the beast we're watching. What we're watching is a decent, but unspectacular glimpse into the faded glories of the over-privileged and under-loved.

Bill R (ca) wrote: I attemepted to watch but in the end I couldn't finish. A typical movie of torture and gore. Special effects were good though. I like my horror movies and all but I think I'm getting alittle burnt out on extreme gore movies that are just trying to shock instead of scare. Anyone else with me on that?

Jayakrishnan R (us) wrote: 85%Saw this on 30/11/16About a boy is a comedy that doesn't work according to the well worn formulas and hence it does not tire the viewer out. The entire cast lead by Hugh Grant is good and this is one of those few comedies that I least regret watching. Movies of this nature are not made nowadays.

Josiah B (ru) wrote: The effects here are just incredible. It's no surprise the director was accused of making a snuff film! But aside from the legendary brutality, there's a good story and some intriguing social commentary to be found. The only thing I found inexcusable was the animal cruelty (save when it was clear the tribes involved in filming were using the animals for food).

Bill B (it) wrote: Re-watched this one awhile back with a friend who'd never seen it, and I have to say that I maintain my initial impression, that it's easily one of the best werewolf films in many years, an interesting take on the mythos and something that really deserves to gain a wider audience. Pleased to won in on the recently released Scream Factory Blu-ray!Recommended.

Charlie G (mx) wrote: Standard start for a scary movie. First half hour was just setting up the story and introducing the characters. The rest of the movie was basically waiting for something to happen. Not much did. Then the movie was over.
