This movie examines the philosophy of reality: what makes your reality or my reality any more authentic than an alternate one we can't imagine? Well, I like to believe that there's a reality out there where Jake Gyllenhaal's career decisions and acting prowess actually gets the appreciation it deserves.

Rourke plays it laid back and cool, in a droopy stetson, even carrying one of his dogs in one scene, he's taking no shit but leaving the histrionics to the badass actor Cole. As a film about film-making it's not Day for Night, but it's not too bad either.

Dave H (kr) wrote: Nice cast in a decent riff on When Harry Met Sally, but the wonky flashback structure sinks it - it almost appears as if it was scripted chronologically and some nutter decided in the editing room it would appear smarter if the chronology was all jumbled up. Nice moments in here though, especially the sleep condition ones.
Michael C (mx) wrote: I can't believe more people didn't like this movie. It was a very intelligent horror movie, with some cool ideas I have never seen explored before. I would tell them but don't want to spoil the movie. There was probably 15 minutes at the begging the was buildup, which some people might find boring, but all good horror movies have that. Maybe some of the reviewers only saw the start of the movie? But once it kicked into gear, it was truly scary and had me on the edge of my seat....and there are plenty of scares, believe me. Much better than the well reviewed "The Witch", which was a true bore.

Jesse O (au) wrote: This movie is simply beyond terrible. This movie pretty much offered absolutely nothing in the way of redeeming qualities. It was simply shat out for a quick paycheck. You've never seen a movie try so hard to be funny yet completely failing at it every single time out. The humor in the film is absolutely horrid. It's a PG-13 gross out comedy. It is simply pathetic. This movie has no balls whatsoever. If you want to be a gross-out comedy, then go all the way with it. Don't chicken out because you're afraid teens won't be able to get in without their parents. It's not like the movie would've been any better, but at least it would've had some balls. The writing is downright awful and the acting is even worse. Ashton Kutcher and Tara Reid have absolutely no chemistry together. In fact, they might be among the worst on screen pairings in any romantic comedy that I've ever seen. And that covers a lot of ground. There's people in the cast that I enjoy watching but the writing in the film simply doesn't do them any favors. Whoever wrote this clearly had no interest in putting together a decent comedy, it was simply a paycheck and it shows. I'm not sure I'd put this among the worst films I've ever seen but it's only very slightly below that. An absolutely horrendous movie that nobody should ever watch.
