Amit T (kr) wrote: This is a Hindi movie set in Goa directed by an American director Chris Smith. The story is of Venkatesh, a boy who works in a hotel as a cleaner in Panjim. In order to substantiate his earnings, he sells plastic bags at the market along with his very young friend Jehangir. This every day existence is fueled by a desire to swim in a pool that they pass everyday on their way to work. On Jahangir??s insistence he decides to climb over the wall and take that plunge but the owners of the house have already moved in?His curiosity is further peaked by the pensive owner played by Nana Patekar and his relationship with his rebellious daughter played by Ayesha Mohan. So that he continues to pursue a relationship with them. He offers his help to Nana Patekar in the garden and they develop a bond through their many hours that they spend in the garden. Ultimately, offering him a chance to go to Mumbai with him and pursue school. He also befriends Ayesha through his persistence and becomes buddies with her, yet he does not understand why the daughter and the father would not talk to each other or about the pool. Just when you thought the movie would have a predictable ending, comes the surprise??Chris Smith has done a wonderful job with a cast of amateurs extracting superb and believable performances. Nana Patekar is restrained and I was surprised because the man is known for his energetic and volatile acting.I simply wonder why this movie is not known to many people, especially since Slumdog Millionaire became such a success, Amazon does not even have a DVD for sale on the website. The screenplay is based on a short story set in Iowa and was written by Randy Russell but has been seamlessly moved to be set in Goa. I enjoyed the movie and I recommend it?.4 stars.

Felix G (mx) wrote: Effectively creepy Mario Bava film with a couple of great suspense scenes. Elke Sommer (who at least looks great) running from the baron through a fog-enshrouded courtyard is a highlight. Joseph Cotten is solid and deliciously evil, but he has far too little screentime despite being top-billed. This is certainly not the best Bava, but it's good for late-night viewing.

Panta O (br) wrote: I have to admit that it's embarrassing how did I found this movie... I was checking movies I've seen from Bergman and on data base I found this one. Got it and too late realize that it wasn't the director Bergman's movie but Ingrid Bergman's... it was her second movie in America! It is typical romance movie of that time in which Warner Baxter portrays the wealthy, easy-going patriarch of a family that falls on hard times after the death of his wife and a stock market crash. Recently arrived governess Emilie (played by Bergman) works to keep the family together but the financial loss of Adam Stoddards (Baxter) fortune means that Emilie must return to France. Reversing his fortunes takes several years and after that Adam recalls Emilie to look after it... but there is a twist! One of the sons, David, returns with his new wife, Hester, (played by Susan Hayward), who turns out be a conniving woman who wants to rule the roost... Screenplay was engaging, but I have to say that cinematography was below the average. I liked the acting of all the stars in this movie, while directing could be done by any film student and no one will notice the difference! It's a good material for anyone interested in the film history...

Grant H (ca) wrote: Pretty bad movie. While certainly an improvement upon the original in story, style, and execution, it still is not a good story, the performances are still corny, and the film as a whole is not good.
