Paul R (de) wrote: If you are thinking of watching "Adrift" or any of the other modern water based suspense / thiller / scary movies - forget them all. Dead Calm is the ultimate and only film of this type that is required. I have very fond memories of this suspense thriller. Nicole Kidman and Sam Neill are a couple on a sailing trip in the pacific trying to forget something terrible in their past. They happen upon a stranded ship with a man on board. Billy Zane is Hughie, the sole survivor on the vessel who just so happens to be a mass murdering, wife seducing general all round bad egg. Soon his true nature is revealed and they fight for their ship and their lives. Kidman is so young in this and was a bizarre casting gamble to pair up with the much older Sam Neill - but she is fantastic and I am always impressed with her handling of the character and the script. Dead Calm's success lies in it's atmosphere and is serenity. If you are looking for a well acted, well shot, haunting suspense thriller then this is right up your street. Even with a cast of just three actors - this film is thoroughly engrossing.

Andrew G (gb) wrote: It doesn't recapture the magic of the original, but seeing Michael Myers again, albeit with a different actor and a new mask, is still a gleefully terrifying sight indeed. As far as slasher sequels go, this one delivers the goods, with an unexpectedly disturbing ending to boot.

Jose M (mx) wrote: I cannot deny it. Class of Nuke Em High is one awesome title. Nowhere but in Tromaville has the effect of radiation taken a turn for the worst. Preppy children are being turned into murderous goons. The problem I see in this film is the boring protagonist from suburbia. Two lovers who represent the squeaky clean ideal image Americans conservatives want to see. Not only do they have to deal with the usual problems and questions of sex, pregnancy, and drugs, but they face pending nuclear disaster, freaks, and mutants. Not really unique here except for gross out gags which may have been inspired by the film Alien. Now the film has a number of antagonists and from the ones I mention, the most obvious is the carelessness of money hungry greedy nuclear power plant owner who risks human health for profit. The acting is atrocious and lines are really weak and don't get me started on t logic of the film. The thing that the film missed is the potential to be visceral and impact especially when the crew takes guns to the school. Firing a revolver outside the school while telling your goons to stay quiet, wouldn't that alarm everyone? The shining moment in the film involves the bathroom scene with one of the nerds and a female freak. Oh by the way, the music sucks pretty much.

Tina H (ag) wrote: Awww This is such a cute Movie!

Justin R (ag) wrote: A captivating and poignant tale with masterful direction, even if at times the camera does linger just a bit too long on those sorrowful frown's of the lead character.

Harry W (it) wrote: With 88 Minutes, the thing is, parts of the film are too complex for the other parts that maintain simplicity and therefore there's no balance. Some of the acting is crap and theres too many names getting thrown around in the stroyline, but Al Pacino was alright in it. But the twist ending was terrible and the intensity was lacking

Ole J (mx) wrote: This movie is not that good, but there are some very good things in it that could have evolved and made this film something special, it just never come that far. There are some funny moments and great remarks, but all-in-all the characters are not that revolutionary, they are fun and have some great personalities, but the story is just dragging them down and the acting is not that good either.I was entertained some of the time and the teen vampires weren't bad looking :)
