(kr) wrote: Saw this at the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival. This really emphasizes the Guest more than the Cindy Sherman unfortunately. Paul H-O is self absorbed and of limited interest. The three stars are for what was revealed about Cindy Sherman who is interesting and talented.
(jp) wrote: This is a pretty cool documentary. It paces itself in an ok way. But the guy the documentary is about has an interesting way of looking at things and the things he can do with nature is very peaceful and very cool. Its a good documentary for anyone but especially those who appreciate various forms of art.

From the filmmakers of "Top Gun," this sports drama follows the same formula, transplanted to auto racing. These are professional racecar drivers who are portrayed as speed and competition junkies, constantly racing and crashing into each other with minimal strategy, both on the track and off. As a spectacle, auto racing is inherently not compelling visually, so the imagery becomes repetitious and the soundtrack is noisy. Tom Cruise is a novice driver hired by an owner (Randy Quaid) with the aid of a hardened crew chief (Robert Duvall) to win the Daytona 500. Nicole Kidman is Cruise's doctor and love interest; Michael Rooker and Carey Elwes are rival drivers. As Cruise's mentor and racing guru, Duvall is exceptional. He brings a quiet authority and sincerity to a conventional role. The rest of the cast is marginal. Screenplay by Robert Towne with story by Towne and Cruise; produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer; directed by Tony Scott. With Fred Dalton Thompson and John C. Reilly.
(ag) wrote: The worst part of this movie for me is the end when their huge hit single that gets them to the top of the charts is actually a cover song from an actual band, about the English draft (something they know nothing about). Why couldn't it have been a different song?! Seriously?! The lead chick lost a lot of her charm when that was their hit song. This pissed me off majorly and kinda ruined the movie. I give it 2.5 stars because it was pretty good until the end.
(br) wrote: [6.0] This movie is a bit like "First Blood", with Crawford as the girl from out of town and Greenstreet as the corrupt politician who'll stop at nothing to send her packing. They are extremely well matched. I enjoyed their sparring and the rising tension, but the pressure started to dissipate in the final act, and the final showdown was over all-too quickly. It's definitely worth checking out though, especially if you're a fan of Crawford. Gladys George is also memorable in the small role of a tavern owner who takes Joan under her wing.
(us) wrote: This movie got me with its spectacular opening of a car crashing. Looking deeper into it, it is a Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy partnership definitely on darker side of things as it evolves around the dead politician, who was hero in the public mind, but had a sinister leaning towards fascism, that lead to his early death. The discovery of this basically makes up the film, with Hepburn as grieving widow and Tracy as the reporter trying to uncover, what is first only a gut feeling. This whole thing is rather dark, with people rejecting to talk openly or trying to put away the truth. An interesting look on American susceptiveness towards totalitarian, if it is only dressed up as the "good American".

I think there will be people who have a negative view on a movie like this, possibly because they have not been a victim or the family of a victim of crime. Seriously, wait until it is your son or daughter and then see how you feel about the outcome. Obviously, when thinking about the situations that you are approached with day to day you need to be rational and logical in your decisions. But if you have been through a situation similar to this it can really touch a nerve. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and it really left me thinking. Unlike your typical hollywood movie where the main character is usually so over glorified, John Doe is just like each and every one of us, a normal person, not a super buff martial arts expert or MMA champion or boxer. He's just your average joe with a score to settle. A score that isn't necessarily the criminals but more so the justice system. Well and truly worth the watch and if you are morally against this sort of movie, think about your family, your sons and daughters, brothers and sisters,,,,how would you feel if they were raped, beaten and murdered...What would you WANT to do? (not what would you do)
(au) wrote: The movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is about the life of Charlie ( Logan Lerman) and his life story in his town. In this movie it talks about Charlie's ups and downs in life struggling after the death of his Aunt Helen and the suicide of his best friend from middle school, Michael. Charlie struggles all through the rest of his middle school days, and the start of his freshman years in high school. He starts to grow a bond with his new friends, Sam and patrick, and he seems to slowly gets better. But near the end, his past slowly starts to catch up to him. And he'll have to face it as it slowly crawls back to him. The main characters in this film are Charlie, Sam, Patrick, Charlie's sister, and Mary Elizabeth. I like these actors a lot, because they show so much emotion that is expressed in the original novel. They really play out their character well. My favorite part of this film was the part where Sam and Patrick went to go see Charlie and they feel so free and so happy together going through the tunnel for the second time after discovering the original song they had. This just shows so much of their friendship together and their happiness just spreads onto the viewer. I like the book more than the movie, because the book gave so much more details about Charlie's life and the same things that really put the book together. The movie just put together only the main parts and the small parts that may be funny, interesting, or significant to the storyline. If I were to rate this movie I would give this 4 out of 5 stars, because it could have included more info on the novel and it would have brought the whole book together. The more details, it would have then made it easier to follow and fully understand all the little details in the movie.
