(us) wrote: An okay drama, but why was it labelled a comedy? I didn't laugh once, and I was waiting to laugh. I laugh at everything. Ewan McGregor is great but I wouldn't seek this one out if you're looking to watch one of his movies you haven't seen yet.
(it) wrote: The nineties produced a plethora of "Die Hard" clones that would take the same basic storyline and advertise themselves as "'Die Hard' on a boat", "'Die Hard' on a train", etc.; you knew the copycats were running out of ideas when they decided to make "'Die Hard' at a beauty contest"! But when "'Die Hard' at a beauty contest" features former Playboy playmate Shannon Tweed in the John McClane role with Andrew Dice Clay and Rowdy Roddy Piper as the villains, at least there's going to be some entertainment value; this clone won't win any awards for its originality or brains, but it's fast-paced, action-packed and never boring, so it's at least worth a look for curiosity value. It was popular enough with the straight-to-video crowd to spawn its own sequel, "No Contest II: Access Denied", which could best be described as "'Die Hard'... in an art gallery (?!)".

(de) wrote: This is a movie filled with really good then really bad scenes and moments. Many times it feels like we are getting something new from the (at the point) overdone negative Vietnam movie (is thats a genre) and then it gets uncomfortably bad. Sean penn is a great villan and Fox is a great good guy.

(kr) wrote: the first time i watched the film I had a Sicilia interpreter, the second time I have English subtitles....anyway, this is a masterpiece of neo-realist cinema and, as many of Visconti's movies, the dialectic of the film is the conflict between old and new, big and small, good and evil. Winner of Venice Film Festival in 1948, this is a beautiful film, real and passionate. (but you need subtitles)
(jp) wrote: Simply the story of a millionaire car company owner retiring & coming to grips with it & trying desperately to make the relationship between his wife work despite the vanity she has.I guess you can't by to hard on this film since it was truly targeted at a 1930's audience but I found the upper crust world so pointless & never understood the pursuit of it, but time where no doubt very different back then.Once the film got going the husband grew as a character & you began to believe in him & the only true to herself character in the film was Mary Astor's character. I think the director did a great job but he clearly had studio enforcement & certain scenes where so trivial.
(kr) wrote: Though the plot does not contain enough of the stunning action sequences that its predecessors have, as well as any of the vulnerability of the titular character, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is still one entertaining movie boasted with Spielberg's great direction and Harrison Ford's best character.
(ca) wrote: Just poorly made. Can't believe this got two thumbs up, low budget war films are horrible. Saving private Ryan came out during this time. Lots of young big time actors overall comes up very short.
