Margarita S (kr) wrote: What a promising first 30 minutes! I loved the initial storyline, setting and Virgil Oldman's (Rush) idiosyncrasies. The film then nose-dived into a blubbering, cheesy romance with poor script, uneven character development and awkward scene transitions. Visual metaphors were ridiculously heavy-handed. There were too many threads and forced events deliberately designed to lead us to an entirely predictable ending. Donald Sutherland was regrettably misused. If the approach had been more sophisticated cat and mouse (all of the ingredients were there) versus silly romance, it would have been a far more enjoyable, well-rounded film. That said, the look of the film was spectacular ?? What gorgeous sets!
