Talk of the Town Tora-san torrent reviews

Dann M (gb) wrote: An extraordinary documentary about one of the most interesting figures in American politics, The Unknown Known is a fascinating look at former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. In the film documentarian Errol Morris conducts an extensive interview with Rumsfeld, covering his work in the Nixon & Ford administrations, the events of 9/11, and the War on Terror. A lot of this is done through Rumsfeld's restorations and explanations of his own extensive memorandums and dictations. And, surprisingly it's not as much of a liberal hit piece as one would expect. Though Morris steers the line of questioning at some points, Rumsfeld is allowed to speak for himself; leaving the audience to decide what to make of him. Refreshing and honest, The Unknown Known is a true documentary that allows its subject to take its own course without subterfuge or agenda.

Jonathan D (it) wrote: In short...it's awesome. Kung Fu Panda is the best CGI-animation movie since The Incredibles. Clever writing, gorgeous animation, fun action, and stellar vocal work by Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, and...(drumroll please)...Jackie Chan! The latter lends a feel of authenticity to this kung-fu themed flick, but you don't have to be a martial arts aficionado to enjoy the ride. Like The Incredibles, this works on multiple levels: kids movie, adult comedy, fantasy, and action movie. Jack Black is immensely likable and Dustin Hoffman charms. There's even some decent morality and philosophy going on. And it'll make you laugh. What more do you want? **** (out of five).

Alex B (ag) wrote: Okay movie, but a little too plodding. The acting is okay, and the movie is decent. The gist is, girl comes back home from the mental hospital after a mental break down. Then things get weird, but never too weird. What should be a movie about how the mind can be a dangerous weapon when turned on itself, ends up being a confusing mess until the final act when they hurriedly rush to connect all the dots in an all too convenient manner. I've seen a lot of movies like this since I tend to seek them out, and this one was not done clearly. They needed to blend reality with fantasy better. Instead the whole movie up until the end is all from the girls perspective and how she sees her world. That's the major problem. They never let up on it, there isn't ever a moment where the story leaves her perspective and world view. I wish you had a scene where the "evil" stepmother was humanized just so you could see that maybe what's being shown isn't to be fully trusted/ Plant that seed of doubt in the viewers and confuse them, that's how you do these types of movies. Though what I liked about it was that it rarely used typical Asian demons and monsters, I think there is one or two scenes that feature supernatural elements such as women in white with black hair covering their face.

Patryk C (es) wrote: A splendid social satire with utterly hilarious gags and situational jokes, and a thorough look at the absurdity of Communism in post-war Poland. Foreigners may not understand the true meaning of most scenes, yet I still recommend it to everyone.

Bill B (br) wrote: I was perhaps expecting more from this film than I should've, as I find myself dipping my toe into older, classic comedy from the '60s with stuff like Bob Hope and the like, but for whatever reason I wasn't very enthralled by Dean Martin and his shtick playing an exaggerated version of himself trapped in a small podunk town.Maybe this would grow on me with a re-watch.Rental?
