A superbly directed and competently acted drama, Borgman never quite ascends to the transgressive heights that it promises. I features numerous strange and disturbing moments, but it ultimately feels like it fizzles instead of climaxes. Still, it provides evidence of a director with talent who should be watched closely.

Graham G (ca) wrote: I didn't dislike this movie, in fact I'm not really sure what to think. At times it felt a little disjointed and a little like a soap opera. There's been a lot of criticism about its low-budget qualities, I think its on par with most films of similar subject matter to come out of Hollywood. The critics were harsher on part 2, we shall see.

Cat Y (ru) wrote: What a cute documentary! It reminds me of my childhood where things are larger than life and that I would do anything to do my best. This is the kind of documentary that makes me want to dance.

Lewis E (nl) wrote: 'Friday Night Lights' rightly tackles a true part of US sport culture by showing the pressure placed on a high school American football team by community supporters and family members. To a less effective extent, it also emphasises how pursuing a career in the sport is the only way of escaping this economically-limited town for the majority of these boys. Consequently, the best bits aren't the clichd on-field action or reinforcement of team spirit but rather the dynamic between a player and his parent or the coach and opinionated fans. Despite this, the film is still formulaic while the personalities of the players and coaches are too plain, making it harder to enjoy than most other sports movies. Whether it'll be the correct pick for you will depend heavily on how much you like American Football.
