A pair of truck drivers happen onto a decrepit roadside fast food stop selling ramen noodles. The widowed owner, Tampopo, pleads them to help her turn her establishment into a paragon of the "art of noodle soup making".

William Hurt's delicate, Oscar-winning performance is obviously the film's main attraction, but there are other noteworthy aspects as well, such as Hector Babenco's stylish direction and Rodolfo Sanchez's fluid cinematography.
