Jonny P (kr) wrote: The only reason that I watched "Electrick Children" is because it expires from Netflix in two days, but I wish that I had invested my time in something more worthwhile. While the synopsis sounded interesting, the film was the opposite. It was bland, boring, and the only way for the writers to connect the dots of this disjointed plot was through farfetched coincidences. It all just seemed far too convenient. Then again, what do you expect from a film that focuses around extremist fundamental Mormons whose daughter seemingly becomes pregnant through an immaculate conception which sends her on a journey to Las Vegas where she randomly stumbles upon her illegitimate father. Spoiler: You never even find out how she got pregnant. What a waste of time. They even tease you like they aren't going to reveal, then they are, and then they don't. It's almost as if they accidentally deleted every other page of the script and the result is a half of a story. In the end, the only thing that this film manages to do is paint Christians as members of a frightening cult and makes you suffer through awkwardly-written dialogue in the process. The acting certainly doesn't help the poor script or the characters that we don't care about. I don't know what "Electrick Children" was aiming to be (or what the critics saw in it), but it is simply an all-around bad movie.

Harsh C (de) wrote: A brilliant depiction of life inside an especially fucked up family. Interspersed with the unpredictable and fast-paced storyline are constant subtle clues demonstrating how deep-seated the problems in this family are, not least from the disturbingly calm manipulations and self-gratification of the matriarch. The conflicting senses of belonging and menace should resonate with many people whose family is plagued by drug addiction or domestic violence, which is where the emphasis of this film differs dramatically from a typical gangland story. One of the best films Harsh has seen in a long time.

Isadore H (kr) wrote: Gandhi is one of the best film biographies about someone I've ever seen. This is due to the great cinematography, the careful care taken with the story, and of course Ben Kingsley in a performance humankind rarely sees accomplished. Director Richard Attenborough does a fantastic job with the camera and each shot feels meticulously filmed and extremely well thought out. Even though the story is not a unfamiliar one, the film makes effective work of it and makes every minute of the three hour run time meaningful. Despite my fears of this being a long and overdrawn film, this felt deliberate in every scene to keep the audience interested and not just cram some scenes with filler material by wisely staying away from showing Gandhi in prison very often. Finally, Kingsley gives his best performance ever, and completely disappears into his role, he is incredibly subdued but manages to creep into every scene as the most powerful force without feeling like he is anything other than a quiet man that wants peace and freedom. Gandhi is a fantastic film to watch if you have 3 hours to see it, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see a great biography on the man

David F (de) wrote: While this is a low budget, somewhat amateurish film it nonetheless has several qualities that make it worth watching for those who appreciate a good horror movie. The plot is pretty standard - there's a maniac who escapes from a mental institution, outruns his doctors and a pursuing detective, and heads straight for the sorority which is haunted by a gruesome crime committed there in the past. I did appreciate the slow, suspenseful build up, which was paced fantastically for such a short movie. Also good, the way the heroine's past and her nightmares slowly fuse just at the point when the night of terror begins so she realizes what happened to her and what's going to happen to her just as the tension explodes in bloody violence. The particular charms of the sorority setting aren't overlooked either, but the acting and the chit chat of catty, superficial girls are subpar. Overall a good thought not great slasher movie.
