Gavin P (ag) wrote: A very well put together look at how McDonald's became the behemoth it is today. Ray Kroc (Keaton) is obviously polarising, but Keaton is superb in the role, as are Dick (Offerman) & Mac (Carroll Lynch), the McDonald brothers. Dern & Cardellini are wasted as the love interests and the film's momentum is sustained by Kroc's unceasing ambition to make McDonald's the best and most prevalent fast food in America. A few toes were stepped on, but an interesting journey nonetheless.

Jack P (nl) wrote: Despite gorgeous animation, from the creators of summer wars no less, this is a total failure in storytelling. A disgrace to the franchise it represents.

Caleb H (ru) wrote: Murder in the First is NOT a historical drama masterpiece, since the facts have been so fudged only the name Henri Young and the setting of Alcatraz remains the same. That said, as a piece of dramatic filmmaking-completely removed from the supposed historical context-this is an excellent film. Christian Slater manages to turn in a rarely likable performance, Kevin Bacon expertly treads the thin line between sympathetic and creepy, and Gary Oldman is-as always-in damn fine form. The filmmakers wisely choose not to dwell on the courtroom proceedings, instead spending more time developing characters-which, for a movie of this sort, works. As far as prison / courtroom movies go, this is one of the better entries from the early 90's slew of courtroom dramas.

Harry B (it) wrote: This film is reflective - both of the 90s college experience, and of the way things were when coming out during that time for young men. If that's what you're looking for, I recommend it.
