This movie has less to do with comedy in a stand up form than it does to do with the way people take on projects where their creativity is the fuel of the fire. Seinfeld is shows why he is who he is and the other comedians show why they are who they are.
Lau M (us) wrote: If you enjoy quirky Japanese culture, you will enjoy this film. It's got all the classic soft-pop, cutesy, feel-good comedic Japanese elements: a quirky group of high school students, an underdog's fight to make it to the top, boy meets girl, and ridiculous off the wall jokes. The story starts with a young student and his band of friends preparing for their high school festival. The rag tag group of guys are on the swim team, but since they are all terrible at it their coach refuses to teach them. In his place an energetic young teacher comes in to take over, but since she doesn't know anything about coaching a swim team, she decides to make a synchronized swim team instead. Soon after she suddenly realizes she's pregnant and has to take maternity leave, and the abandoned boys are left feeling even more hopeless. Their leader Suzuki tries to raise their spirits, he is determined not to be a failure anymore. He finds himself enlisting the aid of a seaworld trainer who ends up giving them a Mr. Miyagi style instruction. The awkward and cute antics are a lot of fun to watch. There are moments when the film moves along a little slowly, but overall there are a lot of good laughs and enough quirky humor to make anyone who feels like they are sinking, swim. It's a feel good movie, that doesn't leave you feeling too drippy about seeing it.
Bradley P (ca) wrote: La Promesse is a touching film about a boy learning to stand his ground and learning lessons in morality. The film has an almost documentary direct cinema style in which it is shot, not to be confused with Cinma vrit, the cast acts as though the camera man is a fly on the wall. The ending of the film truly begs the question of when does one decide when to stand up for yourself and make honest to ones word. A heart- wrenching, yet hopeful film for mankind as, if Igor can learn these lessons of a promise, maybe we can also.
Grant H (ru) wrote: Not that good. Hardly funny, not clever, definitely not scary, with bad performances from the cast, with the exceptions of Reubens and Hauer.

Poor ppl in the 3rd world are usu. given a choice of tyrants, puppet dictators with sponsors or commies with sponsors. "I like you people, but you are sentimental shits! You fall in love with the poets; the poets fall in love with the Marxists; the Marxists fall in love with themselves. The country falls in love with the rhetoric, and in the end we are stuck with tyrants" Wisdom and unresolved problems!
