Brandon W (gb) wrote: With a story in Darkness Falls, there can be a good horror movie for it, and it's got enough ideas for it. However, the execution of it is horribly done. For a tooth fairy that doesn't get in light as it hurts her, there sure was some scenes where she's in the light and it doesn't affect her. The beginning was promising, but it was a bit predictable to see what is going to happen. It has characters that are very forgettable and are just there to die. The acting is mediocre at best, a lot of things don't make any sense, and the main characters are thin. Consider that the movie is short, it should be longer just to introduce the characters, or make more scares because there's only a few scares in this. I hope this gets a remake because, like i said, there can be a good movie out of the story, it's just not done well in Darkness Falls.

Grant S (de) wrote: The Best Picture Oscar winner of 1984. Sweet and emotional...but slow.A good character-driven drama that takes too long to get to the point. I suppose, in this movie's case especially, it is much more about the journey than the destination. And what a journey it is. It is filled with emotional moments, sweet moments and some humourous moments. The dialogue is fresh, snappy and engaging. What drives the movie, however, is the performances. Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger are superb in the lead roles. While MacLaine ended up getting the Best Actress Oscar, Winger was also nominated for it and deserved it more. She gave her character a rare effervescent and lightness which was incredibly engaging. MacLaine's character was much darker and curmudgeonly and a bit more one-dimensional, so less engaging or intriguing. Great support from Jack Nicholson (especially) and Jeff Daniels. Nicholson is particularly good as the retired astronaut and playboy, bringing every ounce of charm, yet with traces of vulnerability, to his role. He well deserved his Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Not sure how John Lithgow got a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He doesn't have that much screen time, and his performance, while solid, is not special. As mentioned, the main negative is that it takes so long to get to the point. The ending seems rather underwhelming too - I would have expected something more profound after such a long build-up.

Becky J (kr) wrote: I took my 11 year old daughter to see this and we both really enjoyed it. I thought it was well-done. I mean obviously, it's targeted to young girls, but what's wrong with that? Not every movie is a gritty, realistic drama or a Nolan flick. Different people need different films. :-)

Dylan M (us) wrote: Mall Cop is cheesy, predictable, and simple but Kevin James is likable in this movie and does some laughs. I did enjoy Mall Cop because when i saw it as a kid it brought a fun exciting plot that caught my attention. The supporting cast is OK but has some dumb characters like the banker and red head that don't do a very good job. As I watch it today it still has some elements of the plot to make me enjoy this film. Its an adventure that brings laughs and amusement that many kids will enjoy and find very amusing.

Alex W (ag) wrote: There is a good amount of British gangster movies out there but this one is unlike any of them. If you are expecting a guy richie or scorsese style its nothing like either of those. Its also worth mentioning that it take the classic american trope "he retired but he was brought back for one last job" and flips it on its head. This simple and origional story rest intirely on Ben Kingsley's shoulders and he will blow you away as one of the most memorable intimidating bad asses in the history of film. Without spoiling anything there is so much originality and cleverness to the script on top of perfect casting and performances this is a must see film.

Matt R (nl) wrote: Surprisingly good little drama/action. Jackson was suitable, did his part well, after 25years in jai for murder of his partner he is out and on parole but of course soon winds up, against his will involved in the same shady dealing of 'cons' ... some nice surprises added in too. (Tom Wilkinson popped up as the evil bad guy... he seems to be doing this quite frequently just lately)
