Riff J (fr) wrote: A really good thriller that must be watched to completion before you can judge it appropriately. The film does a great job of putting the right actors in the right situations, leading to a film that's literally mysterious/suspenseful, and literally captivating. These adjectives get thrown around a lot in reviews, and far too often they're abhorrently inaccurate. But Frailty really succeeds bc Paxton (in his directorial debut) does an incredible job of getting the most of out of his resources. Many of the ingredients aren't top shelf to begin with, but he blends them together to create something cool/different.Imho the film does a great job of accomplishing it's storytelling by switching between the past and the present (that's not a spoiler). A classic case of making 1+1 = 3 (vs the story being told in chronological order). The one negative that stood was the score. It's the only aspect of the movie that's bland. If the music/sound effects were improved, the movie would've easily been a 4*.

Everything (except Paul Newman) looks amateurish, the main problems I found in the movie are a bad story that never should have been filmed, an awful screenplay full of clitches, a pretty low budget that didn't pay attention to quality, Ridley Scott, among others, made this picture look like a made-for-TV movie and the biggest of all was the producers hired a bad director (I guess he was the only guy who agreed to make the film after reading the "screencrap").[/i][/b]
Panos L (gb) wrote: American psycho is a well directed, well paced dark comedy. The film's twisted sense of humor works most of the time and in general, the movie is a great piece of satire of the society and especially the superior classes of it. Christian Bale gives one of his most memorable performance and the dynamic that he brings to his character is the driving force of the movie. Jared Leto and Willem Dafoe also do a fantastic job. Despite all of the positives, the movie has some flaws. Most of the supporting cast doesn't do anything special and could be easily replaced by more talented actors. The movie also has some certain sequences that don't make sense, considering the twist. All in all, it is a pretty enjoyable film and I recommend it to any film lover out there.

Max M (ca) wrote: Following an Academy Award win two years earlier for scoring the film Shaft, the Black Moses of Soul, Isaac Hayes makes his motion picture acting debut in this tough, violent and very funny Blaxploitation film about an ex-football player-turned bounty hunter Mac 'Truck' Turner (Hayes) who finds himself the target of a group of murderous pimps who are out to avenge a fellow pimp who was killed at the hands of Turner.Hayes proves right off the bat that he is just as at ease in front of the camera as he is in front of a microphone. The back and forth between him and his partner, played by Alan Weeks (who sharp-eyed viewers might recognize as the punk that pulls a knife on Gene Hackman in The French Connection), is very naturalistic and hilarious.Another great performance is given by actress Nichelle Nichols who is most widely known for her role of Lt. Cmdr. Uhura in Star Trek. Here, playing the exact opposite of that character, she plays a vengeful madam who puts the contract out on Turner's life, and Nichols seems to be relishing every minute of playing a real tough-as-nails baddie delivering lines like, "Those two bitches that left - they had better learn to sell pussy in Iceland because if I ever see them again I'm gonna cut their fuckin' throats!"And director Johnathan Kaplan, who got his start with Roger Corman (he even gives a shout-out to a close friend and fellow Corman alum, director Joe Dante by naming one of the hit men after him), keeps the action fast, furious and very violent, just the way a no-holds-barred low-budget action picture should be (the final shoot-out in a hospital is just as outrageous as the one director John Woo would stage fifteen years later in his action masterpiece Hard Boiled). Kaplan would go on to direct the brilliant, gritty youth picture Over The Edge as well as the film The Accused, which won Jodie Foster her first Oscar.

It's a quick and easy watch on Netflix so get on it. No movie has ever had this effect on me and I'd consider myself someone who's heavily invested in film. This was an incredible work of art in my opinion and while I can see where others may disagree I'd still tell you to watch it. I couldn't recommend it more. If you're hesitant just know it's a feel good movie with a few songs but in no way is it a musical or bogged down by that aspect. Please give this movie the support it deserves. Here's my poster quote: "A masterful film that only gets better the more you watch it."
