Matt D (au) wrote: It was an interesting movie, and it seemed like an even more interesting case. It seems that emotive racism kept him from getting new trials, but it also seemed as if a different kind of emotion was ultimately responsible for his release. I two edged sword, I suppose.
Frances H (nl) wrote: At first one would think you're watching some sweet romance of a girl much like the one Audrey Tautou played in Amelie, then situation keeps sliding down a slippery slope on your way to hell. A cunning psychological thriller that has excellent performances all the actors. As about a far away from Amelie as you can get.
Dann M (it) wrote: Recapturing some of the magic of the original film, An American Tail: The Mystery of the Night Monster is a fun adventure. In this chapter Fievel teams up with a local reporter who's attempting to uncover the truth behind a number of monster sightings throughout the city. With the voice talents of Thomas Dekker, Lacey Chabert, and Dom DeLuise, the performances are pretty good. And as usually, there are a couple of catchy, lighthearted musical numbers. However, the animation is mediocre, and lacks the depth and color that the first two films had. Though it's not quite up to theatrical standards, An American Tail: The Mystery of the Night Monster is a whimsical family film that's sure to entertain.

Jens T (nl) wrote: Martin Ritt's adaption of John Le Carre's spy novel The Spy Who Came in from the Cold is the story about the middle aged British secret agent, Alec Leamas (Richard Burton) who's after a failed job of patrol the west-east Berlin border where one agent died. Leamas is send back to England where he have to take a job as a librarian, and we falls in love with his colleague, Nan Perry (Claire Bloom). But Leamas is soon called in for another mission which might be his final.Having actually read the book, I must say that this screen adaption is indeed very poor, blank and lazy. Even though Burton look right for the role, he's acting is as his face, wooden. And Bloom is just over acting. In the book Nan Perry (in the book named Liz) in fact just in her early twenties while Bloom is 34. Buy that mean, it isn't the same contrast between the characters. The whole film feels to theatrical and the small idealistic conversations and courtroom scenes are a total bore. This is one of the few fight I beg some one to make a new adaption, any body. Tomas Alfredson should make it, he brought the right Le Carre tone, and the small tiny details in Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy.
Matthew R (br) wrote: This highly underrated war film is very similar to the guns of Navarone mode as far as the story is concerened. A group of allied soldiers are on a near impossible mission to destroy a german weapons base that is launching the dreaded V1 and V2 rockets to London. However, in many ways this film is better than the guns of navarone which was more in the popular mode of filmmaking rather than showing the real harsh realities of warfare. That is far better portrayed in this film. From the neccessary killing of a friendly Sophia Loren (just to keep the secrecy of the mission intact) right down to the end where none survive the mission although they accomplish their end. Operation Crossbow is a terrific highly underrated war movie. Story: B+ Acting: B+ Direction: A Visuals: C+ Overall: B+ ***1/2 out of 4 stars

Kyle L (kr) wrote: Poltergeist II: The Other Side is a solid sequel that does a unique job in being a good sequel to the original 1982 Steven Spielberg classic and although it is nowhere as good as the first Poltergeist the movie is entertaining at least. This film takes place years after the first Poltergeist where The Freeling family now live with Diane's mother after the traumatic events they experienced in the first film. But soon the family is haunted again by the spirits from their former home and with the help of Taylor the Medicine man and Tangina the family must take down the beast Kane once and for all to save their daughter Carol Anne. I did enjoy this sequel as much as I enjoyed the first film and I understand that the reviews were not as high as the first film and it didn't perform well on the box office but it doesn't mean that its not worth watching because this sequel managed to stay true to the spirit of the first film without insulting the original. I know that this sequel has its flaws and issues because making sequels or prequels are often difficult but at least this film has all of the things that made the first one memorable. One of the things I like about this film is that this movie has a couple of scenes that are memorable and in times a bit more suspenceful than the first film and there are a couple of scenes I seriously enjoyed in this movie(Scenes with the creepy old man, the crazy braces sequence, the infamous scene where Steve vomits the creature out of his body, the attack in the garage with the flying chainsaw and the epic finale) and the settings still look good at the same time. The other good things I like about this film is that the movie is also full of special effects and they still look way better than the CGI today plus Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack is darker than before. Now the only downside of this film is that since I said that this film is not as good as the original there are a few reasons. First of all neither Steven Spielberg nor Tobe Hooper had no involvement in this film and the movie lacks the suspense and atmosphere of the original but at least it is still entertaining. Now the acting is superb I love seeing a few of the casts members return again for this sequel like Craig T. Nelson, Jobeth Williams etc... while the new casts like Will Sampson and Julian Beck deliver superb performances as Taylor The Medicine Man and Reverand Henry Kane. Director Brian Gibson did an amazing job with his work on this film and he seriously created a solid sequel to the first Poltergeist even though Steven Spielberg was not involved with this film and he did an amazing job making Michael Grais and Mark Victor's screenplay come to life the result is a solid sequel despite its flaws. Overall Poltergeist II: The Other Side is a great sequel to the first film even though its nowhere as good as the first film and this movie gets a 7.9/10.
