(au) wrote: This is film that started out as a documentary about the typoon David Siegel and his attempt to build Americas largetst house but then, as luck would have it, the stock market crashed during the making of the film and it then turned into a very rich family coming to terms with the stress of money problems, focusing on his trophy wife who doesn't know how to live without haemoraging money on a daily basis. Quite interesting, a bit car-crash, not very sad.
(mx) wrote: Matthew Fox's outstanding performance and commitment to his craft and this dark character is utterly squandered on a script with huge plot holes and a rushed, hollow, came-along-too-easy ending. Almost great movie but instead forgettable.
(fr) wrote: it was an absolute delight, wonderful movie
(au) wrote: I wish I could watch every movie ever made but I sadly don't have the time. I'm not interested in this movie because I don't think I'll like it or don't know enough about it to think I might like it. I may still end up seeing it some day though.
(jp) wrote: I just got finished watching the 2015 show and had to re-watch this movie. I enjoyed it a lot. There were a ton of famous comedians in this and it is pretty awesome to see the before and after of these.

(ru) wrote: If you go in with low expectations, this movie will not even meet those.
(es) wrote: This is - gasp! - a Hollywood movie actually daring to bare its teeth at silly American flag-waving.
(us) wrote: This movie didn't work for me at all. I guess it's a cultural difference thing; I couldn't stand the Chinese opera scenes, and they are pivotal to the movie. The voices of the men playing women is like nails on a chalkboard; I couldn't stand it. It doesn't help that the rest of the movie left me cold and uninterested in the main characters. I wouldn't say it's the actors faults - although Zhang Fengyi didn't make much of an impression on me. Gone Li and Leslie Cheung were solid, but had little to really do.
(ru) wrote: I don't get the reviews here, maybe you have to be English to get the humor and still be a child at heart, as that is what the film is about; keeping your inner child alive. You can't take this movie seriously. It's funny, Mayall is his classic self and I still love it as much as I did when I was 10 when it was released.Another entertaining quirky film from the 90's...seriously, just go with it. I you can't let yourself go and be silly, give it a miss and go watch some French drama and pretend you know what it's about.
(ag) wrote: Truffaut's sweet and funny film about just being a kid, is centred on a classroom of boys around 12 to 14 years old. There are many highlights from mischief-making to first kisses. A slice of life movie that is gentle and likely very personal for Truffaut who co-wrote and directed. I especially liked a pair of brothers who were inseparable and made themselves Sunday breakfast, tried to buy a shiny compass set at the store at a discount, told dirty jokes, and more. An influence on the films of Steven Spielberg and Rob Reiner.
(it) wrote: Great silly fun with lovely score and even lovelier Hammer Gothic look. Sequel to Vampire lovers (1970), which was based on Joseph Sheridan LeFanus Carmilla (1872).
(mx) wrote: While not a proper screwball, this is a comedy. The 1930's saw an increase in curiosity about other political theories, including Communism. The only way to portray some of those interests was as a comedy. Though WWII destroyed all real interest in the American Communist or Nazi parties, the temporary pre-war associations would come back to haunt many in McCarthyism. Garbo is great, again. She shows a range of ability including being both the "straight man" and a young ingenue. I was disappointed that Lubitsch chose not to use Lugosi more - he deserved a career comeback like Lorre, Brando, Sinatra, or Gloria Swanson.
(it) wrote: Face/Off is the first film that John Woo got full creative control of it, and it turned out to be a very fun movie that takes a new twist to the cat-and-mouse genre. In the beginning, Nicolas Cage is just having fun in it, and John Travolta is good. The action is exciting in an over the top way, and when it gets to the middle, Nicolas Cage is really great at doing some drama moments, and John Travolta is enjoyably over the top. It's really funny, and has some heartfelt moments. It has some moments that make no sense, heck, even dumb too, but I didn't care less as I had a lot of fun with Face/Off which Michael Bay wishes his films to be like this.
(mx) wrote: Roger Moore has grown on me. This movie is pretty fun and over the top. I still think these are too long. Defusing a bomb dressed as a clown was hilarious.
(br) wrote: I'm not going to lie, I was extremely excited to watch this movie. I mean come on, it's basically Blacula meets Pam Grier! How could this possibly be bad? To answer that question, while not terrible, Scream, Blacula, Scream where near being great. It's basically just the first film, but with voodoo.
