The Amazing Transplant

The Amazing Transplant

Exploitation auteur Doris Wishman (Bad Girls Go to Hell) provides the most over-the-top entertainment of her career with this film about a nice guy who turns murderous after undergoing a penis transplant. As it turns out, the well-endowed donor was a serial rapist who preyed on women with gold earrings -- a habit that our unfortunate hero (João Fernandes) has inherited along with the man's penis.

John G (br) wrote: Relentlessly violent and filled with loony plot twists. Unfortunately, the plot twists can't save this bag of cliches: a crazy motel owner who loves his mother? corrupt cops, that nagging feeling that the fix is in. Just before the reveal, I guessed what was in the bag as a wicked joke. Yes, I was surprised to be right. Takes the recipe for decent film noir and ruins it. Maybe if it were shorter with fewer outlandish plot twists. The people behind this movie must have known how bad it was: the box office number is in the freakin' sub-basement. $48,000 in ticket sales!?BTW, DeNiro seems to be in the movie to show off his father's paintings. A worthy goal, but an unworthy movie.

Kaitlyn J (au) wrote: Kind of interesting movie. Travolta really looks mean in this one. Travolta and De Niro worked well together.

It is based on the book of the same name by Paco Roca who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ferreras, Rosanna Cecchini and ngel de la Cruz. It was made over budget of 2 million euros. It won Goya Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay - Best Animated Film Former bank-manager Emilio an elderly man who is going to 'nursing home' - his son, daughter-in-law and young grandson see him off. Emilio meets Miguel - a jolly, funny BUT swindling elderly fella (never married). Emilio complains to Miguel about his stuff getting stolen every other night - regretfully, Miguel tells him that these are the early signs of Alzheimer disease - which he knows from his previous room-mate. Emilio is too afraid to be shifted top-floor. Miguel helps him by messing up the inspection days to check these men and women for mind alertness. It begins robustly and as the story sounds nice, throwing light on miserable disease that affects the mankind - leaving the sufferers to be dependent upon others. Film writers have given it touch of depicting the (some) elderly characters in introductory scenes, from youthful memories until the frame changes to reality (such as Emilio is introduced to a woman who is sitting by the window of her room - the frame shows her in her youthful days sitting by window-apartment on Orient Express smoking her Hepburn-style cigarette).

Matt S (au) wrote: The acting is on par for a movie with many fledgling actors, but the filming and rough edits are too jarring to finish the exposition of the story, so you have no time for the story arch to hook you.

Such an amazing script that you'll find laughs at every corner of the film. Martin was wonderful and that gay salute is just stuck in my head forever!
