(gb) wrote: The interesting thing about this movie is that it is about musicians but that it is surprisingly unmusical. And as it should be since the story is about the impediments to life (and music) that exist for the Kurds. The characters are wonderful but the collecting of the ensemble diminishes rather than enhances the story, which rambles through the stunning landscape but never getting anywhere. Magic does exist: the rascalian humour of the bus driver, the village of the exiled female singers, the death of the musician. A flawed film but oh so much better than most North American fare.

(br) wrote: This is one of the most insipid, lackluster, unoriginal, and pointless movies ever made! It almost feels like everyone involved in this project didn't even try to make an appealing movie. This is nothing more than a continuation of a tiresome series of films that attempt to cash in on the success of Smokey and the Bandit, which I think is the best film of them all. As for this waste of film stock, Burt Reynolds sleepwalks his way through the entire movie, Jim Nabors is wasted, the other actors aren't given very much to do, the car races are obviously stock footage, the humor is uninspired, and many of the scenes are more dull and lifeless than staring at a wall for two hours. "Stroker Ace" is simply a superfluous film with nothing unique or distinctive about it.

(ag) wrote: While Aliens in the Attic had entertaining moments, its a movie with a story and humor that only children will enjoy, and not to mention, the story is bad at the first place. The movie starts with a geeky kid hacking his grades, which has last been done and accomplished in the 1980s. From that point on, and after seeing the opening credits scene, I knew that this movie was going to be centered on one audience: the kids. This is not a problem at all. I like kid movies, but only when they deliver us a humor that adults (mostly being the parents/guarrdians) will enjoy and find funny themselves. Aliens in the Attic did not accomplish this goal, and I was very upset to see it like this, because it had potential, with a great cast and humorous characters.I didn't enjoy the CGI, being the aliens along with other special effects. It looked awful, I know they couldn't be too graphic or scary, but they were bad. They didn't go with the environment at all. Of course, aliens don't go with the environment at all in the first place, but maybe realistic aliens would be acceptable. Luckily, the performances from the live action actors weren't too much of a disappointment, but man, if only they were relevant. The humor was not funny. It had some parts that made me smile, but never made me laugh out loud, and that's a fail. Sometimes, I face-palmed, wishing a scene wasn't made. The good news is, any child, and maybe teen, will like the movie. Overall, it's an imaginative adventure, but has few, real entertaining and memorable parts, with bad animation, and lack of humor.
