Dillinger P (de) wrote: This creepy documentary begins by making you uncomfortable and just keeps laying it on thick. A terrifying study of the abduction and murder of disabled children does what every good documentary should, sit on the fence and allow you to pick a side.

Stephen E (ag) wrote: Never before have I seen a movie present such lurid subject matter with such an upbeat tone -- excluding Todd Solondz's Happiness, that is.Paul Schrader is a man who certainly knows how to capture the darker points of life onscreen. Auto Focus and Affliction, the latter being a personal favorite of mine, are perfect examples of that. Schrader begins by showing us a character that has been a victim of circumstance, and then leads us down a path to despair as they are swallowed by their own sin. In the end, we cannot help but feel pity for them. Though Schrader is indifferent to the lead character, Bob Crane, it is clear that he loathes and holds a deep resentment for the sin that Crane commits. It is exactly that that makes Auto Focus such a good film, not to mention the wonderful performance from Greg Kinnear. There need to be more directors like Paul Schrader out there. Cinema does have a purpose, but, sadly, it is typically used to entertain audiences with either bad jokes, loud action, or both. I, for one, feel that cinema is a perfect way to warn the world of the dangers and temptations that lurk beneath the happy exterior, the dangers that lurk like characters in a David Lynch film. Cinema's number one purpose is for entertainment, yes, and I have no quarrels with that, but take a look at the world we live in. Look at the box office totals between Auto Focus and, say, Transformers. Surprised?

Joyanna W (us) wrote: Good movie. Very beautiful. Grossly extravagant people. favorite part's are the cup of chocolate lines. oh, Tim Roth, only you could make the sexual suggestion sound even better than the chocolate.

Carolyn G (br) wrote: An adorable little movie that while it makes no sense, is still fun to watch. I've dug Brian Wimmer since "China Beach" and Marcia Gay Harden is fantastic in anything she does. Peter Berg was completely convincing as the mildly-challenged Frank and so, so sweet. Not a cinematic triumph but I give it more stars for being just plain NICE!

Michael H (ca) wrote: Stripes is an anarchic slob movie, a celebration of all that is irreverent, reckless, foolhardy, undisciplined, and occasionally scatological. It's a lot of fun.

Ian C (ag) wrote: It was fun to watch a young General Zod, and the filmmakers obviously spent a lot of time and money on artistic set designs, but the plot was too incomprehensible. This from someone who thought The Prisoner was one of the greatest TV shows ever.

Matt H (fr) wrote: Interesting early forensic murder investigation; however being one of the first it's the cliche of everything that's copied it since.

DeadHead m (au) wrote: A very early "zombie" movie, dark and atmospheric.

Jj S (it) wrote: Extremely disappointing ending that totally ruined the whole thing and turned what could have been an erratic but half-way decent sci-fi thriller into a laughably preachy religious allegory. I only gave it a half star because I was concerned that if I put no stars, that it wouldn't register my review.

The Gothic Phoenix (mx) wrote: A campy vampire stalker-love movie following Count Vlad Dracula in 1970s New York seeking the love of his undeath. A halloween favorite of mine.

Fabriio M (br) wrote: Despite the well recreated early 80s age, it's like your watching your stupid gym mates for 2 hours. Also they are too old to be freshmen or sophomores. Completely pointless and a waste of time.
