Bill T (it) wrote: Not a bad western here.. Though it really ISN'T a western is it? John Wayne does face the indians here, but his main focus is the British redcoats, and he's trying to lead the American way of life.. if only the pesky brits wouldnt get in the way. Luckily, Wayne's in the olden days of America, so the Brits don't stand a chance. Claire Trevor is in there too, for what reason I have yet to fathom.

Steve G (ru) wrote: I don't like movies about marital dissolution, so I put this off for a while. We all know the character -- the horrifically selfish socialite who fancies herself as more worldly & sophisticated than she is; desperate for approval, clinging to her faded youth, and only interested in her own feelings. The scene where the would-be mother in law refuses to give permission to marry her son is one of the most emotionally gratifying I've ever seen. Huston is heralded for his performance -- and deservedly so -- but truly, Chatterton plays the aforementioned evil character to a T! Probably the most emotionally distressing marital break-up on film...and yet, somehow ends up rewarding. Never thought it possible. Cheers.
